AIBU not being able to figure out this hob?

I am house sitting for my cousin. I’ve been here a week and successfully used the grill and/or oven for my evening meals all week (salads for lunches).

tonight I really REALLY fancy some pasta. But I can’t figure out how to turn this bloody hob on! I’ve always had gas hobs so they’re pretty self explanatory but I’m stuck on this induction hob!

when I press and hold the power button it it looks like this but nothing else seems to detect my fingers for a short or long press (except the power button which switches it off again.)

so, Am I being unreasonabl(y stupid)?
or do you not know how to do it either?

It's locked. Put your finger on the lock for a good 5 seconds and it should unlock

Have you put a pan on the hob? Mine switches off if there isn't a pan in the ring you've switched on.
Put pan on burner. Turn on with power button. Tap the burner you want. Use the lines at the bottom as a slide control.

1. yes I put a pan on the hob.
2. i tried pressing and holding the lock button and nothing happened but I will try again for longer.

I know how to fix that If you go on to your phone press on the uber eats app and press your local chinese takeaway you will have tea before you know it

Have you done a google search for instructions for that particular hob?

I have a lot of sympathy with you. We have gas hob and oven at home but at least I used to be able to manage the old style electric hobs. Now, when I go away somewhere I’ve completely given up trying to cook anything. Lunch out and then cold snacks or microwave for tea.

@CatherinedeBourghturns out I am not unreasonably stupid. But I AM unreasonably impatient. Who knew 5 seconds was such a long time.

Noo. Some of us don’t have any takeaway shops nearby. My nearest Chinese is a 30min drive away. 😂

@youalrighti already tried that but sadly the house is literally in the middle of nowhere and neither ubereats, just eat or deliveroo are operational in this backwater!

I did try to Google search @ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappybut there is no visible brand name or model number so I wasn’t sure what to search for!
