AIBU to chuckle at the thought that Epstein was nothing but a blackmailer .......

....... and that all those men that took advantage of the sex and hospitality he offered thought it was because they were so important. In reality, he was secretely filming everything and blackmailing them.

If it wasn't for the poor victims, I'd actually be enjoying this.

FGS the op isn’t making light of the situation in general.

I agree with you OP.

How gratifying it is to see that these vile men who thought they were part of some elite club and could do anything ……. were actually just part of Epstein’s bigger plan.

I don’t know if these sort of people will ever feel guilt or remorse but I hope they are feeling fear right now, and embarrassment that they were so stupid as to trust Epstein.

Agreed!

What I'm finding fascinating and repellent is the almost sexual hold he seemed to have over heterosexual men. All these gushing emails declaring their love and devotion. It's very very odd.

It's like those Mob films you see where the lesser mobsters are falling over themselves to be seen as the most devoted, the most sycophantic to the psycho chief mobster, on a bigger scale. Am I thinking of the "funny guy" scene from Goodfellas?

Thank you yes it's the men getting their comeuppance that i find amusing. Or maybe I should have used the word ironic instead as a pp suggesting

@plentyofsunshineI don’t think these men have any morals or scruples and I don’t think they will ever care about the victims.

But they care about power and reputation and influence- and if that is eroded and they are publicly shamed as a result of the Epstein files it will be very pleasing to watch.

Really? You can only see AMW? You've read nothing about Mandelson, Branson, Clinton or Gates?

I think the ridiculous debate is coming from posters saying that any comments about the men are misguided because all the focus should be on the victims.

Obviously the victims are at the heart of this.

But what on earth is wrong with speculating about how much the abusers must be panicking now, and enjoying the prospect of them finally starting to get their comeuppance?

I think what sits uncomfortable for me is the fact these men were abusers. So chuckling about them getting their comeuppance feels wrong.

Let's say, instead of being abusers, they instead were conned by Epstein or financially fucked over by him, then I could understand chuckling about them panicking and getting thier comeuppance. I would probably join in.

There is just something about the fact that women and girls were seriously abused and hurt, makes this difficult to chuckle or find it funny.

I can’t help thinking that the sentiment of this thread has been derailed by the word “chuckle”

I am not reading about events and literally having a giggle, or doing a big belly laugh, or chortling, or snorting, or silently sniggering and shaking my shoulders.

But I do think the Epstein blackmail angle is a fascinating twist and see the irony / satisfaction in how this may bring down some of the abusers now. And as they are brought to justice (hopefully) I expect to feel “pleased”.

Russia? Israel more like.

Based on what?

There is absolutely nothing remotely amusing about Epstein and chuckling about such an evil man is the epitome of poor taste.

lemonraspberry · 20/02/2026 13:36

Epstein was a very rich crook (read up on his career) who got lucky and used his power to abuse women and girls. Then used rich & famous people to cover his tracks the same way Saville used charities. Some caught onto what he was & backed off, cutting ties. Andrew was way too thick & entitled to read the room & indulged in abusing women thinking Epstein would protect him & was untouchable.

The arrogance of men is just breathtaking…

JLou08 · 20/02/2026 18:19

He wasn't just a blackmailer, he sexually abused vulnerable women, including ones underage. I wouldn't be surprised if the cameras were there for his own gratification more than blackmail.
