XL Bully on coach

Butterytoastandtea · 19/02/2026 14:37

My daughter spent the day in a city (about 3.5 hours away) and got the bus back last night. She said she was quite anxious as a couple of men with an xl bully sat behind her and spent the journey rolling spliffs. She said it stank. She wanted to move but was scared to draw any attention to herself. I suppose the drugs were secondary. She was very afraid of the dog. I googled and their policy from 2023 says only guide dogs or in carriers allowed.

Am I being unreasonable to expect to be able to travel on a coach (for 3+) hours without being frightened of other people's large animals? It doesn't seem safe. Do I need to get a grip, does she? I don't know what is normal anymore! I would have picked her up if I knew this was a possibility.

Edited to add she's 17

Was she alone?

Sishere · 19/02/2026 14:41

Clearly unacceptable

However I would hope that if she’s independent enough to spend the day in a city 3.5 hours away and then travel home on public transport late in the evening alone - that she’d have the confidence to move seats or speak with the driver.

Were the men on it for the duration of the 3.5 hour journey?

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 19/02/2026 14:43

That shouldn’t have been allowed to happen imo. Something tragic will happen.

Where is the line going to be. I hope it was muzzled at least.

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/02/2026 14:47

If the carrier policy is no dogs and no smoking then she can make a complaint to the carrier that their driver wasn’t following this. If passengers could smell the weed and see the dog they should have raised this with the coach driver who presumably allowed the dog to board, since they didn’t sneak a bully on in their pocket.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 19/02/2026 14:50

It’s the carrier and coach driver at fault. Not passengers for not complaining.

Ablondiebutagoody · 19/02/2026 14:55

How old is she? Get her a car

Dexy7655 · 19/02/2026 14:56

She should notify the coach company. The driver may need better support to debar toerags like this but it's the coach company's
responsibility to make sure the drivers are empowered to do this.

This place, bloody hell 😂

OriginalSkang · 19/02/2026 14:59

Were they actually smoking the spliffs they rolled?

Was this National Express?

cestlavielife · 19/02/2026 14:59

Tell her next time to just move to sit closer to he driver.
Or always sit close to front
And she should tell coach company.

I used to commute on the coach. I’d always sit behind the driver. Or as close as I could.

BillieWiper · 19/02/2026 15:05

The driver shouldn't have allowed the dog on. I'd say you could complain to the bus co about that.

I hope the dog didn't actually do anything bad?

The dog should have been muzzled and so should the losers having cheeky splifs on a bus in a public place.

She has a test booked in a couple of weeks. Have you tried to book a driving test lately? If she fails it'll be another 6-9 months

I think this was it, the driver felt too intimidated possibly

INX · 19/02/2026 16:59

Obviously she or you have emailed the company and complained?

It's completely unacceptable and the driver should never have allowed the dog on, let alone smoking of any kind on the coach.

Balloonhearts · 19/02/2026 16:59

Are dogs allowed. If not, she should have said something to the driver. If they are and the dog was behaving well, she's unreasonable and needs to get a grip. I'd be more concerned about the drugs than a dog sitting there, not doing anything.

Flamingojune · 19/02/2026 16:59

Or a young persons rail card

Yeah, the OP can just bend over and shit a car out.

And a driving licence too.

Danikm151 · 19/02/2026 17:02

What coach company was it?
