XL Bully on coach

Butterytoastandtea · 19/02/2026 14:37

My daughter spent the day in a city (about 3.5 hours away) and got the bus back last night. She said she was quite anxious as a couple of men with an xl bully sat behind her and spent the journey rolling spliffs. She said it stank. She wanted to move but was scared to draw any attention to herself. I suppose the drugs were secondary. She was very afraid of the dog. I googled and their policy from 2023 says only guide dogs or in carriers allowed.

Am I being unreasonable to expect to be able to travel on a coach (for 3+) hours without being frightened of other people's large animals? It doesn't seem safe. Do I need to get a grip, does she? I don't know what is normal anymore! I would have picked her up if I knew this was a possibility.

Edited to add she's 17

Sorry, but no, XL Bullies aren't like other dogs. Some, even most, might never hurt someone, but when they snap (which they seem to do with greater frequency than most breeds), they can kill or cause serious injury more easily than most other breeds. I'd be very nervous to find myself sitting near one in a confined space.

(And what a surprise that the owner was a drug user using drugs on public transportation. 🙄Just great. A dangerous breed with an idiotic owner—a recipe for disaster.)

Complain to the coach company. Say how scared your daughter was. Ask for them to address the issue and ask for a refund.

PinkLegoBalloon · 19/02/2026 17:56

Traingirl not many other breeds would be capable of mauling an adult human to death and be too strong for another person to intervene. Nor are most other breeds bred with a vicious DNA sequence within them. 🤦

Could the driver not have pulled over and summoned the police?smoking on a public vehicle is illegal.

TomatoSandwiches · 19/02/2026 18:00

I remember when you had attendants or at least one on a coach as well as the driver, they don't anymore unless going abroad sometimes. Driver was probably intimidated and I don't blame them tbh.

She’s the protector but wouldn’t hurt a fly. Stop it 🤪

I swear the sheer stupidity of Xl bully owners. I’ll never forget the lady who said exactly the same as you. Guess how she died???

I'm going to guess eviscerated. Though might have been throat torn open, or a limb ripped off. Certainly massive blood loss will have featured.

Yeah, let's hope the family don't need protecting from any flies! 🤣

She was silly not to move seats, the guys wouldn't have noticed or cared.

poetryandwine · 19/02/2026 18:28

ERthree · 19/02/2026 17:15

Maybe just maybe the seats behind the driver were already occupied.

Okay, then - just moving. If the coach was very crowded DD could have sat next to someone quite naturally.

The principle is the same.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 19/02/2026 18:37

Sometimes coaches are very full.

Besides that’s not the point. The XL shouldn’t have been on the coach at all.

She didn't expect to be intimidated by a dangerous dog and its irresponsible owners.

The dog was just behind her in the aisle. She felt she was better off just staying put and was hoping they might get off rather than go the whole way.
