I hope your DCs never catch the travelling bug.
Mine have but they are not naive, politically aware and know that while ordinary folks in different countries are nice and often enjoy meeting foreigners, the state doesn't think the same.
Theres free foreign advice for a reason.

I feel sorry for the couple and dont wish bad on them, but they were foolish.

I think most people seem to think this way. Travel advice is issued for a reason. They chose to ignore it since they thought differently, they were wrong and hence arrested. Most adults manage to follow basic guidelines. Probably, their silly social media posts, didn't help either.
