he asked me why I was feeling low when it was obvious that I was suffering from Hyperemesis and hadn't managed to keep food or water down for 2 days and was showing ketones (spelling?) in my wee? And now I need to be signed off from work and can't bear the thought of having to go and see this nitwit of a man?

maybe he thought there was an underlying problem - from your post it sonds as though your gp was showing concenr - which is great.

howeer if yoare unhappy with their manner - change gp

Poor you - he sounds like a numpty. Can you go and see one of the other GPs?

lucyellensmum · 16/06/2008 10:11

What a twonk. See someone else if you are not comfortable. Has he not offered any treatment? Ketones in your wee is a sign that you are really struggling, i take it you are pregnant?

Custardo - I know showing concern is a good quality in a Dr. It's just that i thought that it was blatatnly obvious. I don't know many peopl who would feel happy or upbeat after 2 days of constant vomiting.

In the end I was admitted to hospital but I will have to see someone to get signed off and I just know that they are going to put me in with him.

I'm 9 weeks pregnant and absolutely delighted barr the sickness.

Just ask to see one of the others, pick a random other name from the practice when you book the appointment. You can see a list of the GPs (generally) here

ummadam · 16/06/2008 17:47

he may have been an idiot, or having a bad day (everyone is allowed one afterall) or maybe.... he was giving you an opportunity to talk if there was another reason you were feelign low. Either way, you won't find out unless you go and see him again

I would say you are being a little unreasonable to judge someone so severly after only one comment and no give them the benefot of the doubt - but perfectly reasonable unreasonableness IYKWIM since you are pregnant and feeling urgh!

Start with " I was a bit unsure about whether to come back as something you said last time upset me a bit.." and see where things go

good luck

When I went to see my GP with hyperemesis he asked if it was making me feel depressed as a measure of how badly it was affecting me. He was deciding whether to try and treat me at home or hospital. Maybe your GP was just checking it was the hyperemesis making you feel bad and nothing else.

You have my sympathies hyperemesis is absoluelty depressing. I never want to feel this bad again. Hope you are feeling better soon. Is the treatment he gave you working?
