Birthday love to friend

samelove87 · 16/02/2026 22:18

posting here for traffic. I have a good friend whose birthday is coming up and I want to get her something. Can’t afford a lot at the moment but something to show I care. She’s a good friend and has helped me through low points and has always shown up. She has never needed me in a way that I have needed her so probably doesn’t know I care if that makes sense? (She generally has a happy and well balanced life so hasn’t ‘needed’ me)

Hope that makes sense

Wow a positive post on AIBU about wanting to do something nice for someone you have a good relationship with! Never thought I'd see the day!!!!

Thanks OP, you have given me hope for humanity.

What's your budget? Probably easier to answer with a specific amount in mind.

Whatineed · 16/02/2026 22:25

Will you see her on the day? I always appreciate a homemade cake and a brew from my friend who is short on cash.

ThePerfectWeekender · 16/02/2026 22:28

I was about to say homemade cake too and perhaps a dish to take. A lasagna and salad are simple.

Lavender14 · 16/02/2026 22:29

What does a realistic budget for her birthday look like for you op? Just to give us a ball park with no judgement!

samelove87 · 16/02/2026 22:31

Thanks for replies so far! I would say £10-£15. More of a gesture than for the value. Just can’t think what would be best

Aww you sound like a good friend too! I’d say home made as well, cake or cupcakes? Shows thought and time have gone into it. Good luck and hope your friend appreciates what you do decide to get/make 😃

hididdlyho · 16/02/2026 22:32

I think a nice card with a thoughtful message letting her know how much she's appreciated would be lovely. A bunch of spring flowers or favourite box of chocs or wine if you want to gift something to go with it.

ToffeePennie · 16/02/2026 22:32

Home made cake and a cuppa and a chinwag. That’s all I ever want from my mates!

sparklyblueberry2 · 16/02/2026 22:34

Can’t go wrong with a good book and flowers

Screamingabdabz · 16/02/2026 22:34

I’d say a nice little spring time plant wrapped in pink tissue (Tesco are doing tete a tete daffodil pots atm for £2.50) and a box of spring themed iced biscuits either off Etsy or M&S.

Crunched · 16/02/2026 22:36

Do you have any photos of times you have done together? A friend of mine gave me a little photo book of us together through the years and, as well as being touched by her thoughtfulness, it bought home to me what happy times we had shared.

Lavender14 · 16/02/2026 22:39

I also like the idea of baking a cake for her and a bunch of flowers and a card. If you're crafty could you make something?

Or plan a cheap hang out, head to the beach and bring a flask of tea and cake.

ImFinePMSL · 16/02/2026 22:45

Flowers
Homemade Cupcakes
Joma Jewellery Bracelet (these have always gone down well with my friends)
Pamper pack (face masks, lip balms, hand cream, bubble bath)
Gift card -for her favourite shop/restaurant

ChaToilLeam · 16/02/2026 22:51

A home made cake, a card and a bunch of daffs - I'd be thrilled by that! One present that still stands out for me years later - my friend was unemployed and skint, and for my birthday she got me a really nice box of tissues - it was some sort of limited edition in a great box, black with flowers on. Cost her just a couple of quid, I think, but I loved it! 🌺

samelove87 · 17/02/2026 06:47

Some great ideas. Thanks all

If a friend wanted to please me on my birthday, a bunch of flowers and a homemade cake would do the job. A lovely card with a thoughtful message is the icing on the cake.

IamnotSethRogan · 17/02/2026 07:24

Maybe a homemade cake and a moon pig card with lots of pictures if you have any.

TheActualQueen · 17/02/2026 07:39

I like the cake idea. Maybe with a bunch of flowers too?

samelove87 · 17/02/2026 20:03

Thanks everyone. I think she will really appreciate the idea despite it not being of high monetary value 🙂

One of my favorite presents I ever got was a silly keyring that made me laugh because it was referencing an inside joke we had. It showed my friend had spent time picking out something she knew I would find funny, and I treasured it for years!
