I'm sick of immigrants being blamed for everything

Gathering of relatives at the weekend. Conversation topic drifted into politics, bad choice that I always try to avoid, but it was my racist uncle who started it.

He started talking about how much he admired Farage, hated immigrants (my DH is one!) and said some blatantly racist things I won't repeat here.

Other older family members chimed in, whilst they didn't agree with all the racist bits, they all clearly like Farage too and will vote Reform. They seem to think immigration is the root of all evil.

When I pointed out that Brexit was meant to fix all that but has been an utter sham on all fronts, they didn't have an answer.

Needless to say we left pretty quickly after that.

I don't think I can be around these relatives anymore. The ignorance and discrimination is too much. Dh finds it pretty offensive too.

Maybe they can’t be around you 🤷🏻‍♀️

people are entitled to their own opinions if you like it or not.

Of course they are. She doesn't have to be around racists though if she doesn't want to.

I don’t blame immigrants, but I do blame immigration policy for some problems. Because vastly overcrowding an already struggling country is not a good idea*

*and before anyone says our country needs immigration for the economy, we have settled 10 million immigrants here since the Millennium and our economy is still shite, so that’s not a logical argument

Isn't the answer to your Brexit point that the post-Brexit Tory and Labour Parties have both lied about reducing immigration, which is precisely why people will be voting Reform? If, like you, the others are comfortable with current levels of immigration, that's fine, a reasonable position to take, but they need to own it rather than bullshit the electorate. It's not racist to disagree with that.
