To panic over tampon

I cannot for the life of me remember removing my tampon 2 nights ago. Was coming to the end of period anyway; have since used a pad and had some blood on there, have also since used more tampons and had intercourse - all have seemed fine and normal.

it’s only until today that I’ve thought blimey I don’t remember on Friday night after a lovely dinner and drinks with DP coming home and removing it? I do remember putting a pad on and crawling into bed and falling fast asleep however.

I’ve had a solid rake around and can’t feel anything - all seems normal in terms of scent too.

AIBU to go doctors and ask them to check on whim that I’ve forgotten? Or is having a rake enough?

Am no doctor but I think it would be quite hard to insert another one if you had not removed it, but the usual advice for this is to try squatting in the first instance and see if you can move it out. If that doesn't work there probably isn't anything there.

If your tampon was still there it would stink by now and your partner would have felt it during sex. You’ll be fine.

@ArtesianWater Yes did do the squatting and rake method as well as the laying down and rake … can’t seem to feel anything

Go to docs and ask them to look. If the tampon has gone way up and you can’t feel it you could risk TSS. Please do it.

Oh, nightmare! Been there! 🙀…

Ok, how were the tampons you used since? Anything on them at all? Given you’ve had a bit of a hunt, and you’ve seen some blood on a pad, I’m pretty sure you’re good, and you actually DID remove it on Friday night. It’s probably a case of “ automatic pilot”, and you simply did it without remembering it, because you’re so used to doing it during a period. I really wouldn’t worry.

However, you are absolutely NOT BU, and when I was at Uni I did end up going a couple of times to get it checked out, as it was driving me insane stressing about it! … there was never a tampon there! 🤔🙄😹!

Good 🍀!

@Sisublondie Oh god lol. The ones I’ve used since did have blood on etc and then bedtime pads have had blood and have come off period today as was meant to.

If you've had a poke about and checked that you can touch your cervix, then there's not really anywhere else it can go, so I'd just assume you removed it half asleep

TeaRoseTallulah · 15/02/2026 23:49

Have a bath and a ferret around, easier than squatting.

I once left a tampon in accidentally for a month (thank god I didn't get TSS). It had gone right up somewhere. I started thinking I bad BV after a couple of weeks, had no idea about it at all. When I got my next period the smell was beyond awful. Then I went to take my (new) tampon out and there were two strings 😬

My point is that I easily put in the second tampon without feeling any resistance

If you're really worried I would get checked

Sisublondie · 23/02/2026 00:41

Sooooo… what was the verdict?! 🤷‍♀️. Had you removed without remembering?! Are you all good now?! Hope so!

TempestTost · 23/02/2026 02:50

The blood doesn't tell you anything, it will come through once the old tampon is saturated.

Anyway, if you can't feel it I imagine you took it out. I once had part of one break off and didn't realise when I removed it - until about a week later when it started to really stink. So it will announce itself soon if you missed it.
