My husbands nickname was Ethan Mack (his middle name is not Mack) after his Uncle whose name was “_ Mack” because he spent a ton of time with him growing up and his Uncle taught him how to rebuild car engines & made him his little prodigy.

We were thinking of using Mack for a middle name but we love Grant. Grant Mack. I don’t want to post our last name because it’s not a common one. But wondering what you guys thought about Grant Mack. Thinking G-Mack for a cute nickname!

Awww I think it’s sweet ! Especially G-Mack ! People always have differing opinions on names if you like it go for it !!

amusedbush · 25/02/2026 19:29

Mack is fine but I definitely raised an eyebrow at Grant. Fine in 1980, an odd choice today.

GoodVibesHere · 25/02/2026 19:34

I quite like Mack (or Mac) but Grant gets the thumbs down from me.

As for G-Mack, it's terrible! Makes me think of P-Diddy or R-Kelly. It might suit a rapper but not an actual child in the real world.

kundalini7 · 25/02/2026 19:54

Do you pronounce Grant as Gr'a'nt or Gr'ar'nt? Basically, are you from the North or South OP?😀I think two consecutive short 'a' sounds are a bit blunt-sounding, but if pronounced as 'Grarnt' Mack it's a bit more resonant.

Don't do G-Mack - it reminds me of 'Honey-G' from the X-Factor! Or that song 'Return of the Mack.'

Grant Mack really doesn’t flow at all well.

Sounds like someone who will be someone in life! Go for it!

G Mack makes me think of G Tech.

ShawnaMacallister · 25/02/2026 20:04

Grant is really dated and not in a good way. G-Mack - I have no words.

puddingandsun · 25/02/2026 20:07

I don’t know - it’s your husband’s nickname… What if baby boy is absolutely not interested in car engines and is different to his dad?

But do agree to not overthink a middle name as they are rarely used. You can add another name if you are worried about it not flowing (as per pp-s). I.e Grant James Mack Surname

Grant is great!

OriginalUsername2 · 25/02/2026 20:13

Middle names are rarely used. I’d go with Mack as a first name personally. I’ve not heard it before but I really like it!
