This is absolutely ‘just for fun’ on a wet Sunday, so please take this in the spirit that it’s intended!

I was at an 18th birthday party a few weeks ago. I went to the buffet and there was hot and cold food (think curry and sandwiches) so I had a plate of both. A lovely young man behind me, asked where I was sitting and whether I needed help, carrying one of the plates back.

Im able bodied and 44 😆 but appreciated the sentiment

Your turn!

I think it was went to the media museum in Bradford and saw a glass case full of items I was not only familiar with, but had also used in my working life as an adult until my fourth or fifth job.

A couple of years ago when I, in my mid-40s bought several mascaras of increasing price, wondering why mascaras are just so shit now then realised it's because I have ageing eyelashes which aren't as long or thick as they once were so all mascaras were going to struggle to give me the long, thick lashes I was used to as the foundation to build on wasn't what it was.

On a beautiful sunny day last summer, my first thought was "ohhh I could get two loads of laundry done!". Ugh what a grown up old person thought!

And last week I had to explain to teenagers what life looked like before Internet and phones. That made me feel old!

In my very late 40s, a child (primary-school aged) saw my brother (who was the child’s teacher) out socially with me. The child thought I was my brother’s mother. My brother is 12 years younger than me, but even so. 🫣

When I was 39 I went shopping with my sister for a wedding dress. I am 7 years older than my sister. The woman in the shop asked my sister if I was her mother. I was very unimpressed. I have quite a lot of grey hair, which I don't dye, but I did not look like I could have a 32 year old daughter!

My first ever experience of feeling old was when I was 26 and teaching primary. In the book I was reading with Y6 there was a picture of a casette tape. No one had the first clue what it was and it was a real struggle to explain it to them.
