I’ve just arrived at a relative’s house where I’m staying with family and have found out our cat has gone missing. I think my family last saw him a couple of hours ago.

The cat came with us because we had no alternative option.

We don’t know how he went missing but pretty sure he’s not in the house. He doesn’t know the area or the house. Please help.

None of us know what to do. It’s a really horrible situation, on top of some of other awful things that have happened for us recently, so I’d really appreciate some practical and kind advice.

Thank you ❤️

I'm so sorry.

Leave his used litter tray outside, post on the local FB page and go out for a walk calling him with his food/treats?

And triple check everywhere in the house just in case!

He is more than likely in the house somewhere. It's amazing how they find places to hide. I've rescued many cats over the years. One would manage to get behind the plinths in the kitchen. One spent almost 3 months virtually behind a sofa. We found one in the drawer of a bed base. Just don't panic. Puss will show up in time. Has anyone had any doors or windows open?

Oh Jesus he’s been found.

when did your cat last eat? I’d just hope he’s off exploring and will retrace his steps.
Maybe put some food outside and keep watch?

Once he’s back just be careful to keep doors shut and to know where he is at all times. I have to do this with my cat as she’s not allowed out the front and you just have to be super vigilant. If you can’t trust your family to do this then he may have to be confined to one room for safety.

is he chipped?

Frostynoman · 14/02/2026 20:05

Excellent! Where?

Oh Jesus he’s been found.

Oh where was he! That's brilliant! 🥰

Wakemeupinapril · 14/02/2026 20:06

I bet he's in the house
. Ime dcats are more likely to hide in a strange place than locate a door and make a run for it into an unknown outside. .. Safer to hide inside...

Sausagedog256 · 14/02/2026 20:06

Glad he’s been found. A missing cat always pulls at my heartstrings

Hollyhobbi · 14/02/2026 20:08

Is he ok? Your post is a bit ambiguous!

TwoBagsOfCompost · 14/02/2026 20:10

I'm so happy for you OP ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️

LostCat5 · 14/02/2026 20:16

Sorry everyone - we’ve found him in the house and he’s absolutely fine ❤️❤️❤️

He has no idea what the fuss is about haha.

I’ve had quite a stressful day, as have my family, and we all love him to bits, so that’s probably why my post made no sense! Sorry! This is a massive massive relief.

I might ask MNHQ to delete this as it’s a happy ending and all is well. Gosh I’m so relieved.

So pleased for you! We have a couple of cats that take it in turns to go walk about, recently got air tag collars which help a bit. It can feel like the last straw when there are other stresses X

Good news. You must have been so relieved.

Cats do love to disappear and worry the crap out of us, and then just stroll in like 'you lookin' for me?!' Little imps! 😆

Glad kitty has turned up @LostCat5 😍

BlueJuniper94 · 14/02/2026 20:57

Ach that's great to hear OP, nice to get a happy ending so quickly
