Things you wouldn’t be without - bit of spare cash to spend

I have come into a bit of spare cash - don’t worry it’s all taxed and legit.

What have you bought that’s made your life easier and you wouldn’t be without?

Both office and lifestyle.

I would like to buy some equipment to make my business admin easier - I’ve got a PC and printer.

Do you have have top tips for things you’ve bought that you would highly recommend?

Not me, but my boss has an electronic notepad with a stylus. He scribbles his notes on it like pen and paper and it converts them into typeface and saves them as a file. Neat.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 14/02/2026 18:36

Kobo ereader. I can 'go' to the library without leaving my sofa!

Fortnightly cleaner. Supermarket delivery.

LavenderSweetPea · 14/02/2026 18:38

Robot Hoover and mop

Bearbookagainandagain · 14/02/2026 18:38

Bread machine
Bean to cup coffee machine (with a proper milk dispenser)
For the office then only thing I need really is a nice comfy chair

Yetanothernewname1 · 14/02/2026 18:48

Second screen for the PC if you haven’t already, it’s revolutionary.

Do you know which one he’s got please?

PruthePrune · 14/02/2026 18:50

Measuring spoons and hand blender

G5000 · 14/02/2026 18:51

not a 'thing' but weekly cleaner

TheToteBagLady · 14/02/2026 18:51

Mine is boring, but I’d love a professional deep clean of my house - oven, floors, showers, etc

Holdinguphalfthesky · 14/02/2026 18:53

I recently bought a Paperlike screen protector and it’s been a game changer in how I use the iPad. Only cost about £35. Makes me use the iPad so much more and more effectively.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 14/02/2026 18:55

I’ve got a kindle scribe and DH has a remarkable, both e-reader tablets, both good. Both cheap.

Holdinguphalfthesky · 14/02/2026 19:03

An old-school item I use daily and have had for over ten years (bought preloved as well!) is a Roterfaden journal cover. It has clips for three different notebooks, pockets for business cards or whatever you like, and at the back mine has space for a mini iPad (unfortunately I don’t use it now as my iPad isn’t mini and my kindle is too small, but if I got another mini iPad I so would).

This sort of thing. I paid about £60 for mine second hand, probably 13 years ago. The pen loop and binder elastic have perished but I’ve got another elastic closure from somewhere else, and there are virtually no signs of wear elsewhere in the Taschenbegleiter. Absolutely worth the money. When I got mine you could choose the different coloured leathers and linings, but looking at the site now it’s a bit more complicated- but don’t let that put you off! I really rate mine. Can you tell 😂

Taschenbegleiter LTD_022

A durable TASCHENBEGLEITER made of strong, vegetable-tanned smooth leather with a decent, natural embossing. 100% Merino wool felt inside. Three pairs of clips for notebooks and folded papers. Versatile inner pockets for smartphones, tablets, pads, bus...

Ultra wide screen is mega.
Business admin - invest in some software / paid AI to help - what is it specifically you need?
teasmaid for my bedroom

My little side project at the moment is to spot where I’ve got ‘favourites’ and just upgrade everything to match the best and bin all the old stuff so:
socks
pants
600 thread count bedding x 2 sets
16 matching white pillowcases no more faffing trying to pair them all
cutlery
mugs
crockery

Cnidarian · 14/02/2026 19:31

Cleaner.....

WhiteRoseHurt · 14/02/2026 20:18

Thanks for the ideas. I’ve been thinking about a remarkable or an iPad with the screen protector that changes it to a paper feel.

Plus a decent coffee maker.

Robot Hoover and mop

Yep. Robot hoover is the best thing we've ever spent money on.

Onefortheroad25 · 14/02/2026 20:27

Robot hoover!

Fishchipspeascupoftea · 14/02/2026 20:31

Tesco delivery pass and a soup maker.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 14/02/2026 20:31

Another vote for a robot hoover and mop with a docking station.
A second screen and laptop stand.

HoorayHattie · 14/02/2026 20:33

I love a delivery from Waitrose . . . can't afford it very often, so it's a real treat

Abd80 · 14/02/2026 20:38

Weekly cleaner.
Proper coffee machine and milk frother

sunshine244 · 14/02/2026 21:19

I totally agree with buying a second screen for work. Being able to have e.g. a spreadsheet open on one screen and a word doc on the other has been a huge tine save for me. I have no idea how I worked without this in the past.

I have an old robot hoover that doesn't work well any more. Interested in one that mops - what multi function brand do people recommend. Also... the robot cleaner I have is great on wooden floors but leaves marks in the corners of carpeted rooms. Would love recommendations for one that doesn't do this (mine is a roomba).

WhiteRoseHurt · 14/02/2026 21:32

Yes I’ve got the second screen, it’s a game changer for sure.

It's a Remarkable.

My Wusthof chef’s knife is 30 years old and I love it as much now as I did the day I got it.
