to ask whether to sort out LPA before or after marriage?

Hi, I’m single at the moment, however I’ve been proposed to, and I’m happy to say a big fat YES !!

I’m also retired, and I wish to sort out LPA and a Trust, and a will simultaneously.

i would like have my wishes finalised asap.

My question is, would it be daft to sort out all of those wishes while I’m still Ms Username, or would it be wiser to wait til I’m legally wed and Mrs HappilyMarried ?

I’m assuming if I sorted everything using my single status, would I then need to pay to update after I marry?

We can’t tie the knot very soon, as my dearest had been unwell for a number of years, and is in recovery from multiple surgeries.

Thank you 🙏🏻

No, you can just add a line in the will to say if at the time of death you are married to MrHappilyMarried then XYZ.... if you are unmarried then ABC.

Just consider tax implications for those you include in your will.

Marriage voids any will that predates it.

LPA can be sorted anytime and being married or not doesn’t matter. LPA will give a nominated person the power to make decisions about property and finances or health and welfare in the event that you lose capacity. It is important that someone you trust can do this so that bills can be paid or tenancies ended or property sold if needed.

Marriage voids any will that predates it.

Not if the marriage is known about and taken in to account in making the will
