I was thinking today about how much i love drinking cold water straight from the tap. No glass. Either cup hands and drink from them or put my mouth down to catch the water. Love it.

I love chewing on a sponge

StrawberrySquash · 12/02/2026 21:22

A lot of these belong in a simple pleasures thread. These are meant to be a bit weird!

Twattergy · 12/02/2026 21:29

Giving my dog an egg shell to eat and shouting "Monch!" as she crunches in to it.

Ditto shouting 'toe beans' at the sight of dog or cat's paws.

Dunking my head under sea - feels so natural and liberating

Muffsies · 12/02/2026 21:53

Going up to check on the youngest (11) when he's asleep and sniffing his head (did this with his older bros up to when they were late teens), every kid has their own smell and i love it. Don't know what i'll do when i've run out of kids to sniff.

I have a recurrent blackhead just above my right eyebrow - really annoys me but I love popping the little bugger out every six weeks or so!

Yes why do they always come back in the same place! I always get one appear on the left side of my chin 😬

KimHwn · 12/02/2026 21:55

I have an odd habit where I sort of shuffle my feet together when I'm in bed and trying to get comfortable. I also do it when I have my feet up on the sofa- I find it very relaxing.

@BecauseofyouIlearntnottotrust I like being outdoors barefoot in rain in summer. I’ve done it recently in the everlasting wet, walked in flip flops on my muddy and waterlogged lawn. Squelch!

I like to wear trainers without socks, most of the year: I I like the way it feels, even though it’s a mumsnet sin.

Oh yes I love being outside in the summer rain. We have big parasol over an outdoor seating area and I spent many hours in last summer’s monsoons curled up under a blanket out there. When I was a kid, I’d sometimes drag my duvet outside in the rain and loved cocooning myself in it - I’m sure my mum loved dealing with a sodden duvet 🤣

this is me. I find more joy being drive to the holiday place than the actual holiday

Same, love the trips we make down south two or three times a year, including the stops at overpriced service stations 😂

I do this as well! Sometimes I hear a noise when I'm lying awake in bed and I realise it's me, rubbing my feet together for comfort. I've done it for as long as I can remember - a self soothing thing that's not sucking my thumb!

Ophy83 · 12/02/2026 22:17

Shaking out the duvet before making the bed in the morning gives a particularly pleasurable stretch across the back

rosydreams · 12/02/2026 22:23

getting rid of those nasty chin hairs with my tweezers hahaha,i use wax strips but theres a few that evade it

Dappy777 · 12/02/2026 22:24

I have a bizarre and totally irrational love of the snow. Almost nothing lifts my mood more. I love it. I’d pay £100 for one day of heavy snow in Essex before winter ends.

TheGoldenApplesOfTheSun · 12/02/2026 22:25

Getting rid of cradle cap. I know you're supposed to leave it alone and it will go of its own accord eventually but I adore putting oil on to soften then peeling the flakes OFF. I would de-cradle-cap everyone's kids for free if anyone would let me, I'm mad for it.

Also paddling in the sea when it's freezing cold and all the little veins kn your feet clamp shut with surprise. Has to be a sunny day though.

Getting in th bed fresh from the shower still a bit damp. I don’t know what it is but it’s sooo relaxing

Oooh I HATE this! My husband does it and it drives me crazy 😧. I use the hair dryer all over my body after towel drying to make sure I'm bone dry before bed, and I love it! So satisfying 😹

BrunchBarBandit · 12/02/2026 22:47

I love it when I accidentally knock something out of the cupboard but reflexively catch it before it hits the ground. I give myself extra feel good points if I catch it with my left hand.

I also have a little ritual in the beach with my dog where we find ourselves 20 feet apart and we both do a play bow then charge at each other. As we get close we do a pretend jump at each other then I swirl around a few times with my arms out while she does zoomies around me. God I love it

Swallowdoubleandrunamile · 12/02/2026 22:49

I do the feet rubbing off each other, too.
It's so soothing!
I hold my own hand as I doze off, the weight of the one on top makes me feel sleepy, very comforting.

Hello19834 · 12/02/2026 22:49

Hot water trickling over my eczema in the shower. No better feeling 😌 I know it's bad for my skin but damn it feels amazing!

I’m hooked on my Vicks inhaler - I had one when I had a cold and now I just use it through every day - I swear it helps clear my head or relax me (I dunno ) 😆😆

Ahh I keep one in my handbag 😂 it refreshes me

AurielleBaies · 12/02/2026 23:25

I don’t live in the U.K. anymore but I liked to cut up little bits of cheddar into squares and then mix them up in a bag of mini cheddars. Not sure that’s weird though.

Also constant yawning in the cold weather - I really like inhaling cold air.

StabbyCat · 12/02/2026 23:30

When I approach the front door holding the key in my outstretched hand and it goes straight in with no poking around.

impatientfury · 12/02/2026 23:52

Stretching my toes out. Also rubbing my foot back and forth on the bottom sheet in bed. Stretching my legs really far. Earbuds in ears. Evidently I'm all about the sensory 😬🤣

It's an actual thing!
It's called cricketing and I do it too!

*Mines reeeeally weird. I have a extra year's old pillowcase that is so so soft against my cheek. I even take the pillowcase on holiday with me. We've even nicknamed it the "the nam nam' because it's that snug feeling when you get when all soothed and cosy. We went on holiday at Xmas and DH went "did you pack your nam nam" before we left. Odd behaviour.
*The smell of the inside of my dog's ears, it's like Bovril
*Chin hairs pulled out we fingers, not tweezers. My one hair is nicknamed Mildred and she hasn't appeared for months. I miss her.
*Watching my dog eat his food
*Watching the washing machine
*Walking down the first of season isles in supermarkets - chocolate coins in September? Yes please.
*Eat chocolate buttons - out of the freezer

Silvermoon8 · 13/02/2026 00:20

I love being out in the rain for a dog walk and getting cold and wet, then immediately getting in and taking a really hot steamy shower. Heaven

My Labrador’s ears were very velvety.

Haha I also have a Labrador - divine ears!
