I can't wait! Jacob Eldori's wig looks a bit dodgy in the first part but he scrubs up well when Heathcliff becomes rich. Not sure about the Yorkshire accent.

Margot Robbie looks a bit too old and glowy to be Cathy but I'm there for the frocks, the interiors and the scenary!

Anyone else going?

Ralph Fiennes is my favourite actor and I thought he was bloody atrocious in it and his accent too. So disappointing all-round that adaptation.

I laughed out loud quite a few times, very much enjoyed it 🤣

TomatoSandwiches · 11/02/2026 23:12

If the promotional work is anything to go by then no, all very convoluted and imo tasteless.

Beesandhoney123 · 11/02/2026 23:12

Oh no, it's not going to be anything like the book. Betsy is a strange casting, and she is a main character native to the area and therefore the plot and explanations.

It's not a love story anyway. It's a tale of domestic violence, unhappy marriages, cruelty to animals, obsession and desperation. No interest in paying to watch a load of misery, thank god things have changed ref divorce, workers rights, women's support groups. Access to mumsnet.

Can you imagine the aibu? I have a wonderful husband who loves me, I am pregnant, but I love my bil whom I had a fling with once. He has no manners, everyone fears him, he beats my sil, but he wants me. My boring wealthy husband would be devastated, and it's such a mad whirl! He says he can't live without me!

Aibu to meet him.on the moors and be with him. I'm sure he wouldn't slap me about or kill my dog.

Ah well yes seen through that lens I totally get your point! 😆

OldReliability

poss only if you all wanted to hate it though! I’ve gone to films with friends that they thought were crap and had to keep my mouth shut after a while as it was non stop making fun of everything I liked!!!

MsSmartShoes · 11/02/2026 23:15

@Arlanymoragree entirely! No one have ever cast a satisfactory Heathcliff. I imagine his accent to be a mishmash of Romany, Scouse, and North Yorkshire.

In fairness (and I don’t disagree with you), it was his first screen role, and I think he was still doing stage acting and hadn’t really learned to screen act yet. And that’s where Spielberg saw him and wanted him for Amon Goeth…

All I really remember about that one was Juliette Binoche, whom I love, being easily the least Yorkshire Cathy in cinema history…

Footyfandango · 11/02/2026 23:15

No

Seacatt · 11/02/2026 23:18

No, it sounds awful.

I would rather rewatch the Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon version.

Oh yes, I absolutely agree with you and as I say, he's my favourite actor to this day (so I did forgive him after a while 😉). He was definitely more at home on the stage and I think that came across. I am sure I read an interview with him at some point where he said he preferred theatre as you get an immediate response from the audience and that kind of spurs him on (I'm sure he said it better than that, but it was the gist). Totally agree with Juliette not knowing a whippet from a bulldog! I used to have the Three Colours trilogy on VHS (I am ancient) and she was just mesmerising in Blue.

TheActualQueen · 11/02/2026 23:27

Yesssss! Saltburn was hilarious.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/02/2026 23:36

I’ll be going and doubtless enjoying it.
I’m a huge fan of the book, having read it numerous times and also studied it for A Level (which was a bonus having already read it so many times!) so yes I do properly understand the book.

The adaptation is a bit of fun, and I dont think that’s a problem.

Yes I think they did miss a trick by not highlighting the fact that racism is a huge part of the story by casting a white actor (although he is of Spanish/ Catalan origin so not as many miles out as some people seem to think) but it does look as though the film will be worth a watch.

PabloEscoBear · 11/02/2026 23:36

I am. It’s my favourite book too, and I can’t wait!
I read this earlier and sent it to my friend who I’m dragging along to watch it:

“Not all the reviews of Wuthering Heights have been harsh – Caryn James writing for BBC Culture describes the ‘bold reinvention’ as ‘utterly absorbing’, The Hollywood Reporters calls it, tantalisingly, ‘ripe and juicy’, and in a five star rave, The Telegraph (of all places) called it ‘a gasp-inducing thrill ride’. Who doesn’t want a gasp-inducing thrill ride on a Friday night?”

I agree Ralph Fiennes is an amazing actor but he was a terrible choice for Heathcliff.

I like the Lawrence Olivier version and also the BBC version from a few years ago.

DontTellMeToTakeInIroning · 11/02/2026 23:40

I've never read the book and loathe Kate Bush and her wafty wavy singing... however I had a dream last week where Jacob Elordi was taking me to Paris for a romantic weekend so I may indulge just to fuel my fantasies further.... I'm a 40 year old menopausal woman who's just started testosterone so will see how things go 😂

Sweetiedarling7 · 11/02/2026 23:40

The original book was more than enough for me. I think it is a terrible story full of abuse and horror.
It blows my mind that anyone finds Heathcliff sexy.

OldReliability · 11/02/2026 22:48

Well, the trailer looks like a Meatloaf video, so no. Can’t say I’m holding my breath.

😂

Alackadaisical · 11/02/2026 23:58

Fascinated to see that there seem to be many people who don't want to see it because they don't like the book... and also many people who don't want to see it because they DO like the book!

Surely it can't have been the intention to alienate both camps?!

(I appreciate that this doesn't apply to everyone. But surely it's a bit of a marketing nightmare, if they're not necessarily capturing either audience? Or perhaps they're just targeting people who have never heard of the book at all?)

It does look like a Meatloaf video.
I'm 100% going to see it. Jacob Elordi's accent in Priscilla was absolutely terrible. I expect him to be equally as dodgy in this.
It could be complete rubbish or absolutely brilliant in a crazy way like Saltburn was.
Anyway, it's February and the weather's crap and I'm willing to spend good money to experience this extravaganza on the big screen.

Yesssss! Saltburn was hilarious.

This has made up my mind. I hated Saltburn and I found some of the scenes utterly revolting. Still traumatized!!

Suffice to say, I don’t like the director one bit and on that basis, will give this WH a miss.

Basque.

I’m pretty sure it’ll be atrocious in every way, so no.

🤣. Great user name @PabloEscoBear 😆

outerspacepotato · 12/02/2026 00:17

I'll happily give it a miss. This one looks like the worst of all the WH movies.

Thepossibility · 12/02/2026 00:18

No. I was interested until Margot said they are codependent, he filled her room with flowers etc. Made me feel ick that they are pretending they are romantically involved for the sake of promoting the movie. I know that it's not unusual but this time and from her (who usually seems such a genuine MARRIED person) it's put me right off.
