To have rebooked driving test sooner but in different town?

Son’s driving test was cancelled last minute this week. The new dates sent was for 6 weeks time. He’s ready for the test now. I called up DVSA & they offered another test next week but in a town a couple of miles away. I thought great! But son has not driven there before & there are a couple of tricky roundabouts. Should I have just held out for the one in our town in 6wks time? My view is, if you can drive, you can drive..? My DH thinks I’ve scuppered his chances..

@neilyoungismyhero , in my post I mentioned 2 road layouts that would catch someone out, and there's a difference between driving and driving with an examiner in the car.

I haven't seen similar to either of them since.

It wasn't in Farnborough.

@noexcuses26 when I went for my test, there was a young lad who had come with his dad. Dad had managed to book the test in his name!! Not sure how the learner driver had missed that in all the emails they send before. Luckily he’d put the right licence number in so they let the test go ahead but it was a tense few minutes in the waiting room!

I recently passed my second test and I was practising certain routes and roundabouts for weeks, when the test came they took me on a countryside route which I hadn't done before but I still passed. To be honest on test day you could know the route perfectly but something could still go wrong that means you fail, or you could go for this new area and things will go well. The driving test system is quite soul destroying at the moment especially with how hard it is to get a test so if he feels like he wants to do it, it might be worth taking a shot and practice the area with him. Good luck to him 👍

Update: he passed!!!

Brilliant news

I was going to say as long as you have time to go and drive round the other town and familiarize him, it’s worth a shot.
well done to him

There's an advantage to be in a different town. Young men can be very cocky and self confident and believe they are better drivers than they are. I know I was one

A different area he doesn't know so well will make him concentrate especially on the more difficult bits which he may have become blase about locally
