Help! I had my teeth deep cleaned yesterday and ive woken up in the night with bleeding teeth and what seems like a small blood clot in my mouth, is this normal?! The dentist never mentioned this, he was so rough at the appointment and my entire mouth was full of blood after the treatment, im kind of scared ive got a picture of the clot

Crikey, poor you! They do clean under the gum line, which traumatises the gums (and hurts like buggery, ime) so some bleeding wouldn't be unexpected. If you think there's exposed tissue that might get infected, rinse your mouth with warm salty water. This can be quite soothing, as well.

See if it settles tomorrow, call the dentist if not. Obviously, if you start gushing blood overnight, ring 111. It should ease off fairly quickly, though.

(Not a dentist but I have gum disease, so been though similar more than once.)

Thank you for the reply, the blood clot freaked me out i just wondered if this was normal, im currently sat with a cottom pad rolled up in my mouth trying to soak up the blood, im not scared if I go back to sleep ill wake up with another clot. Ive had a deep clean before but this was awful, very rough and mouth was full of blood after, never had this before.

I understand Flowers A clot's not a bad thing in itself, though - it's the beginning of healing. Probably better to rinse, spit and leave the cotton ball out. It would be dangerous to sleep with a lump of cotton wool in your mouth, apart from anything else.

Im removed the cotton wall pad, I was trying to get the bleeding to stop which it had now, I can still see what looks like another clot forming around that tooth which is freaking my out about going back to sleep.
