To wonder about Dojo points at school. Can any teachers advise?

My ds (in year 2) came out of school today excited to have won a little dojo points prize but on the way out he was saying some kids are on their second prize and some are almost about to win their third!

He seemed a bit unsure about this feelings wise, he was happy with his prize today but you could see him wondering why some will be getting their third prize soon and he asked me how.

I didn't know what to say really! He's bright, has friends, is well behaved. Last year his teacher said she would like a class full of him!

Will it be a case of that he isn't any bother in class he's kind of flying under the radar?

I know he tries so hard at school.
I'm pretty sure he is neurodivergent and he definitely masks at school. He comes home really tired, hungry and overstimulated. He gets anxious about things like the noisy dinner hall, hand driers etc. So he is clever, and at school he is well behaved but it's not coming easily to him!

If you are a teacher, what are dojo points awarded for? Is there an effort to make sure they all are noticed even if they are quiet in class?

All the school points systems right through primary and secondary are wildly subjective and inconsistent. If you can get him to stop comparing with others now, and focus on the fact that he got some points, therefore did some good things, it will help. He possibly is just never standing out as someone who gets a lot of praise for being the teachers ideal pupil, and not misbehaving so not needing the points as a reward for good behaviour. My sons are at secondary now and it has always been a muxed bag. At secondary at least they can laugh about it. My sons points went down 20% a week because he went up a maths set and changed teacher ftom one who was a points fountain to one who didn't bother.
