Pecking order at work

I’m sure this is a common thing and it’s all very school playground. I’ve been in my job for 3 years and overall enjoy it. It’s a small time, mostly nice people but there is a definite pecking order of who is the most popular/cool. I get on with them but I’m definitely down the pecking order. People don’t come and chat to me unless there’s nobody better around. Managers sometimes don’t even bother to say good morning but fawn over other staff. I tend to sit in my office alone and can often hear chatting and giggles from another office where everyone has congregated.

I try not to let it bother me, I’m there to work. But obviously you spend a lot of time in work and it does hurt a bit sometimes.

There is also one supervisor who seems to talk down to people a bit, always in a jokey way but i think it’s to try and asset her authority.

Does this resonate with anyone else? I just feel u important within the dynamic.

"Nobody comes and chats to me", "People congregate in another office". Do you ever make an effort and go and talk to people yourself? If people are chatting next door, why not drop in as well?
