I am never going to try drugs as I’d fear for my life / mind! BUT , from a spirituality standpoint I am curious about people’s experiences. Apparently meditation can create similar state, similar spiritual revelations ?? but I’m not good at that either 😂

I've also been very put off ayahusca by the stories of people spending days shitting themselves! Surely it ruins their south American holiday? Are there any books or sites you recommend to start looking into self hypnosis?

I posted earlier about microdosing, but I also once got 'high' from eating an ayurvedic meal after a few weeks of regular yoga, so I really do believe we can alter our own mental states without drugs.

What did the meal consist of?

It wasn't anything particularly unusual. From memory it was white rice with some kind of oil on, chickpeas and onions dry fried in spices so they were crispy, raisins and apple slices, with a spearmint mix tea to drink. Very tasty, but basic. However I felt like I was floating on buzzing, shimmery air when I left, and even took some photos and videos so I'd know what was 'real'.

Interesting, thanks!

Was there any “ritual” round the meal

No, it was just a meal in an ayurvedic restaurant. It was in a very 'hippy' place and I had been doing daily yoga, soundbaths etc for a couple of weeks beforehand (i was on holiday) so I think that helped me 'access' the high feeling.

The menu recommended different meals for different doshas (person / body type in the ayurvedic tradition). I didn't know what dosha I was so the waiter recommended a meal he thought would suit me. He was right!

I’ve always been terrified of psychedelics but have had some incredible meditation experiences during Kundalini yoga and also just basic Savassana. All of the benefits but far less risky. Heard lots of good things about psilocybin anecdotally, but there’s currently very little scientific research.

As I understand it, psychedelics can help create new neural pathways in the brain, which help overcome repetitive negative thinking.

Again, this is anecdotal but a friend who works with homeless heroin/crack addicts told me many of them have used DMT (an intense yet fast acting and fast wearing off psychedelic) and have managed to kick addiction. Apparently it’s not for the faint-hearted.

I’m fascinated by what psychedelics can do, but far too scared to go anywhere near them!

Name change for safety 😉 I've been experimenting with magic mushrooms for a couple of years or so. I had a traumatic event in my personal life and was left with PTSD symptoms and anxiety so decided to try it. I microdosed on and off for a couple of years (you need to take breaks for a while). It really helped, although getting the dose right was tricky (I remember speaking to the owner of my company at a high level business conference and feeling very 'woo' 🙈😂). I have also macro dosed and it was, well, indescribable really. I felt like I was part of the universe, like space and time were elastic, I felt like I could control time, slowing it down and speeding it up. I remember looking up at the stars in the night sky and feeling as one with them. It's very hard to explain. On the 'comedown' bit, you get absolute clarity of mind too, like there is a mesh which filters your thoughts and experiences and someone has taken it away so there is no mesh there, you're just your consciousness. My last trip also made me quite anxious though and that is scaring me from trying it again.
