Looking for sofa recommendations

Posting here for traffic

I'm looking for recommendations for new sofas for sitting room in Georgian conversion and fallen down the rabbit hole of too many websites.

The room is currently magnolia with brown carpet and curtains and 2 x 3 seater ancient M&S sofas from our previous property that are lost in our large bay fronted room.

We have Dc9 and 6 month old kitten to consider so I'm after durable and comfortable.

Am I mad to think about yellow or green velvet sofas, one large chaise and one 4 seater?

Budget isn't ridiculous - can spend up to 4k but would love a bargain

Your DC is 9 and you will hopefully be getting a sofa that will last until both your DC and your kitten will be adults. Therefore the key thing to think about is how much sofa will you want in the future when everyone is that much bigger. My DH, 16yo DC and 6YO cat can take up the entirety of a 7-seater corner sofa between the 3 of them leaving nowhere for me to sit.

Buying sofas is a nighmare purely because of the overwelming amount of choice, and you have no idea whether you are getting value-for-money because the price tag on each sofa in the showroom is based more on how popular it is (and therefore how much premium is added if it's a low-volume product, or how much savings are made if it's high volume) rather than quality of materials or manufacture. The 3 items of furniture most important for having good spinal health in old age are your bed, your office chair (if you work in an office environment) and your sofa (unless you hardly ever have time to relax on the sofa as you spend all your leisure time elsewhere) - so maximise the quality you can afford for all 3.

When we had this dilemma (back when DC was 8 or 9 as it happens) I couldn't find a sofa I was happy with but found that getting one custom-made was surprisingly affordable and the sofa we have fits the space we've got perfectly (though it still isn't enough. Teenagers can occupy a LOT of sofa).
