To not realise how lovely the Isle of Wight is.

Spent weekend there, first time.
So many pretty villages, and towns ( stayed in Shanklin), quirky cafés and restaurants e.g Off the Rails in Yarmouth, stunning coastline around Freshwater/Needles, great walks. Even in the fairly grey weather it was lovely.
Can't believe I've never been before. Will definitely go back.

Went a few years ago and thought the same op - was there late December and weather was lush

The Roman villa is superb, and Carisbrooke Castle.

I wasn't a fan to be honest. Yes there were some nice parts but there was also some particularly run down and deprived areas as with most places. I spent 5 days there in September and I do not feel the need to ever go back. But then life would be boring if we were all the same.

How wonderful that you found it!
We have holidays there almost every year.

My son has travelled to so many countries, and is in his 30s now, but he always says that the Isle of Wight is still his favourite place!

I have great memories of the lovely times we've had there.

Wd spent a lovely week there last August, the weather was stunning, it was our 2nd visit and we will definitely back

Some lovely scenery but it’s not for me - lots of run down areas and there didn’t appear to be much there for young people. - lots of retirees though. Once they found out that we were from London, the hotel owners made some very racist comments about London. It seemed stuck in a bygone age to me.

Meadowlands · 09/02/2026 22:01

@LondonLass61 Sorry to hear about the racist comments. Fortunately our hotel staff were very welcoming.
Agree a few run down parts , but hasn't everywhere?
Most places were very clean, saw no litter, and roads in good condition.
I think part of the Island's charm is it is like going back in time, but in a good way !
