To ask for examples of the worst behaviour you've seen from an adult at a wedding?

Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

Yup was awful. Groomsmen dragged him out the loos onto the dancefloor. Bride started cpr kids all watching and saw it all. Best man's parents there too as he was the grooms brother. Paramedics couldn't bring him back. We all just sat silently at the tables waiting for the police. Dj was shut down. Grooms side of the family obviously all in a state waiting for the hospital to announce him formally dead. Then the brides side of the family hurriedly started bringing around the guest book for signatures as it hadn't been done yet. Awkward. Don't do cocaine in your 40s folks because your heart won't put up with it forever.

The grooms brother?? even worse..horrific!

gototogo · 09/02/2026 17:40

Seen fights on a few occasions, sometimes involving the groom

But you've been distracted, that's my point. You really start to feel sick and notice how drunk you are when you stop doing it and set out to head home.

No, what you were getting at was “the fact that you start moving about more,” not distraction.

I think hitting the fresh air makes more sense and it’s the only explanation I’ve experienced first hand.

My son, who was 11 at the time, was doing a reading at my sisters wedding. It was going really well until a woman burst into the church. She screamed "Who parked over my drive? My daughter needs to go to work".
It transpired a workmate of my sisters was the culprit.
I followed her home and emphasised the time money and preparation that had gone into the day. I told her I hope no-one so rude and tactless would spoil her daughter's wedding. All that was needed was a discreet word with the ushers and all would have been well!
It was all anyone could talk of at the reception.

I may have misread this story but...one of the guests parked over someone's drive, who disturbed the wedding to get the car moved and you followed the person who had been inconvenienced by the thoughtless parking home to tell them off?

We saw the groom snogging the maid of honour on the stairs.

David Starkey is the worst person I've ever met, bar none.

Not sure you've quoted the right post, but this has amused me! 🤣🤣🤣

My X brother in laws wedding, my twin boy & girl were 2.5 , they were page boy & flower girl .
I had too many drinks the night before hand ( I’m someone who never really drinks , back then & now ) .
The wedding was 4 hours away so we booked weekend away in hotel .
Anyway , as the twins were little , I was walking up the isle with them holding their hands .
When it was time to walk up , my little girl at the time didn’t want to do it , she kept crying , then I started crying ( only cause I was so anxious because I drank too much night before 🙈) .
We nearly knocked over the bride cause I was up in a heap , I just left the church with the twins to gather myself .
Came back in , stayed at back of Church .
Went to reception where I kept crying on & off like some sort of a weirdo !
Then I went up to hotel room during speeches & just sat up there crying, My Ex missed all of the speeches, he was one of the groomsmen, he was trying to talk me around into not being so upset .
I never came back down , & my Ex & his mom looked after twins for duration of wedding until it was time for them to come up to me to go to bed ..
She didn’t utter a word to me when she came into room , just gave me my children 🫣

Can't say I blame her really, it must have affected her day - it was her other son's wedding. Sorry, but you sound utterly wet.

You all will have a hard time beating this one. My fil got done for drunk driving and spent the night before our wedding in a police cell. He had to go straight home for his suit and an uncle of my husband had to drive an hour to collect him and bring him to the wedding. He missed the ceremony and arrived, white as a sheet and looking like shit, just in time for photos. Of which he at least had the good grace to stay out of most of them. Not because of how he looked but because of how I’m reminded of that debaucle of that morning every time I look at any with him in them.
My poor lovely mil, who was in the early stages of dementia, had to travel up with friends in the morning instead of with her husband. She spent the day mortally embarrassed and having to put a brave face on.
My OH brother, another clown, was staying with us and a few other family members at the hotel the night before and managed to get out his face on drugs, thus ruining the nice meal and drinks we had planned. He at least was on his best behaviour on the day itself.

Is this really the thread to say 'I saw terrible behaviour at a family wedding.'?
The end.

Not for you to question.

His behaviour affected the wedding , his treatment of other guests and he couldn't even behave for a couple of hours.

It happened , it is all true.

If you have had a lovely childhood then I am pleased for you , we did not .

He was invited wrongly because he promised to behave. He is 80 years old , he should have learnt how to behave by now at a special and important occasion.

I decided not to have bridesmaids or flower girls at my wedding. One of my cousins was very offended by this. On the day she turned up with her daughter dressed in a flower girl dress. She even had a little bouquet. Her son was in a 3 piece suit, complete with tails😳. Moving on to thr reception, her brother, who has rsvp'd to say he couldn't make it, turned up with his wife and their 3 dc. No place settings because he'd said they weren't coming. To top it off, he'd come straight from his shift as a bus driver, and was still in his uniform...

Edited

Not exactly bad behaviour but I still can't fathom out why- we went to a friend of my ex boyfriend's wedding (very strange set- up with them for a start), and one guest turned up in a hi- viz vest! Kept it on all through, and the reception.

tartyflette · 09/02/2026 18:21

@Poodlelove Well then, I apologise -- I wasn't doubting it but wondered why you bothered to post on a thread which invited people to give examples, details, anecdotes, or anything really, about odd or bad behaviour at a wedding.
Seeing as you didn't give any.

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with her behaviour !
Of course it affected her day .
Obviously I was in the wrong , that’s what this thread is about.
I was just telling a story & you don’t sound like a nice person being honest .

I was at one where the best man basically brought up that the groom cheated when he was younger in his speech. It was so embarrassing

I have seen this too, so awkward! At the same wedding the police turned up looking for a family member during the meal. He could be seen legging it across the field as they walked in. Weirdly it was probably the poshest wedding I’ve ever been to. 😂

P0loGirl · 09/02/2026 18:29

My mother caught my new husbands brother happily shagging his girlfriend in the toilets 😮

Pasta4Dinner · 09/02/2026 18:31

So I knew someone who was getting married. We had a mutual friend, this friend was invited to the night do only. She was slightly obsessed with the bride in a harmless way, it was definitely a one way thing, I think she was disappointed she wasn’t invited to the whole thing.
So friend got incredibly dressed up in a very bright dress and waited outside the church. She then inserted herself in all the photos taken there and put herself front and centre.
Bride did think it was hilarious thankfully.

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

This is the best so far. It’s really made me laugh.

Most of the weddings I've been to have been very tame affairs compared to the ones being mentioned here! The only two cringey things I can think of are one where the caterers (who were related to the groom.) failed to turn up to the reception until pretty late in the evening, to the point where the bride's father had to buy every guest a packet of crisps. The other was a FOB speech where he claimed the bride suffered from terrible flatulence just to work in a very old joke.

Reading the stories here I'm rather amazed at the amount of coke being snorted, not to mention the number of grooms having random sex. Mind you, it's over 10 years since I last went to a wedding, so perhaps things have changed in the intervening years!

My best friend went to a small wedding where the caterer never turned up at all - best friend and a couple of guests went to a nearby supermarket and bought what they could for the reception.
They found out a few days later that the caterer had had a heart attack and died on the morning of the reception - it was a one person business so no-one else knew who was expecting her.

I went to the wedding of a Transman once. 'He', being a Transman looked 25 when he was pushing 40.

His previous girlfriend was 17 and it turned out 'he' had passed himself off, for the length of thier relationship as being 22.

'He' had recruited her brother, brothers wife and another family member into his long standing friendship group and all we're there on the day of his wedding in full belief of 'him' being only 25.

The ex girlfriend refused to go because she found it uncomfortable her family stayed in contact with her ex.

If she'd know that he was in fact a woman nearing the age of 40...god knows.

When I discovered this, at the actual wedding...oh my god. It was a farce.

The new wife was absolutely and went along with this whole thing which was so odd. They ended up having two children by IUI and instead of following the guidance which is all donor children must learn they are donor children, decided the children would always be raised to believe this Transman was their bio father.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/02/2026 18:42

Wedding was at a huge 4 storey property belonging to a family friend, but held in the grounds. All went well, but on the morning after, older children of the family came down for breakfast - through a couple of ‘reception’ rooms on the first floor, and found two of the guests - who were supposed to have left the night before - shagging in an ornate antique bed that was part of the decor.

The children found it hilarious!
