Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

Wow and gross

Worst I have witnessed happened to me. Had a very difficult lead up to my wedding with my MIL and her best friend being very controlling and having a strop about the reception guest list. On the day on the wedding, right after I stepped out of the church, MIL’s best friend walked up to me and stuffed confetti down my top! Literally happened when everyone was around and there are photos of me standing there, looking down my cleavage and trying to get the confetti out. Who does that?!?!

NoYourNameChanged · 09/02/2026 15:13

A physical fight between two women, then their respective boyfriends too. There was a 1 year old being held when it all kicked off who went flying and had to be scooped up by a relative stranger, it was fucking awful. I was mortified for the bride and groom who were the loveliest, least-like-this people in the world.

My mum and two sisters made their own breakfast (nothing for me!) and sat in another room, drinking my champagne and bitching about how I shouldn’t marry by now-husband the morning of my wedding. That was nice. I’m LC with both sisters, and still VERY happily married to DH.

I’ve been the problem at a wedding before. First time drinking since having my then-18 months old. I got absolutely wasted and had to be carried out by 9:30. Mortified doesn’t even come close.

This thread is like a bumper edition of Shameless

Went to a friend of DH's wedding - marquee in their small back garden. One guest was a man who lived 2 doors away - and he was flirting like mad with all the women, In the end 3 of them went back to his house - one came back (clambering over the wire fence and ripping her dress) and asked me if I wanted to join them as they were having group sex. I declined.

One of the women had a child with autism who get extremely distressed because he didn't know where she was and in a meltdown whacked another child in the face with a toy sword causing a deep cut across his cheek.

One of the group-sex women came back and tried to make off with some bottles of drink, and then two aunties went round and told them all to come back and care for their children - and confirmed that they were all having group sex.

The women came back and then when later the man tried to come back one of the grooms men punched him in the face and banned him from the wedding.

I’ve seen this at several weddings, always such a wtf moment, like is it meant to be funny?? To who?!

Mugcake · 09/02/2026 15:20

One where the grooms cousin and his wife took loads of coke and started a fight in the gardens.

This one i was told about from a friend who attended, we were all early 20s at the time. Couple booked an abroad wedding, the week before the groom gets cold feet and decides he wants to be with his ex. They break up and he chases after the ex, she's in a new relationship and wants nothing to do with him. Because all the flights/accommodation etc are paid for and cant be changed a group of guests (including the bride and groom, now broken up) decide to go anyway and treat it like a holiday. While there the bride and groom decide to get back together and GET MARRIED as planned 🤯 it was absolute madness and they didn't last the year.

Did that bridesmaid have bad social anxiety, OP? The behaviour does make me wonder. Weddings, particularly being part of the main bridal party, are the worst for bringing that out.

Social anxiety be buggered, could be that she was just a self-absorbed arsehole.

Poodlelove · 09/02/2026 12:02

My Dad aged 80 was an absolute knob at son's wedding.

He definitely wasn't there to see his Grandson get married , we have now got non contact as his behaviour has been appalling. He also doesn't actually care and we have suffered two forms of abuse in the past from him as children.

Is this really the thread to say 'I saw terrible behaviour at a family wedding.'?
The end.

I'm not even sure its true but I have been chuckling away at the thought of it.

I know, it made me laugh out loud!

GreyBeeplus3 · 09/02/2026 15:38

Black bride; white groom afterwards at reception grooms gothically old uncle as we all milled made polite conversation and enjoyed champagne boomed/ pratically bawled
"(Grooms name) you watch yourself now with what you've gone and married into; you know you'll always have trouble on your hands"
I swear you could've heard a pin go through soft material as mixed groups quickly separated
Then as grooms cringing dad said uncle was only joking and didn't mean it
Atmosphere remained flat and silent as brides parents sat there daggering at grooms parents/uncle all night alongside other relatives. The couple left without cutting the cake so brides mother had it removed from table.
Got my slices posted to me

@CurlyhairedAssassin "Did that bridesmaid have bad social anxiety, OP? The behaviour does make me wonder. Weddings, particularly being part of the main bridal party, are the worst for bringing that out."

Whilst social anxiety can make someone behave "oddly" it doesn't make them behave in an obnoxious manner that draws everyone's attention to them. That's the opposite of what they want. They usually want to be invisible or run and hide, not make a great big song and dance about what shoes they're wearing. They also wouldn't start smoking in a clearly designated non smoking area and then blatantly light up again when specifically asked not to by the person hosting the event.

The confetti thing shoved down the dress happened to a colleague of mine too. And it was wet so ended up running and staining her dress. I wonder if it’s one of those weird bride humiliation things like the cake smash trend?

AgnesMcDoo · 09/02/2026 15:52

Our wedding - one of my DH's school friends got so drunk he stripped off all his clothes and ran around streaking. 😊

That's extraordinary. What on earth were they all thinking. Did they know each other before? How would 4 complete strangers agree to that out of the blue.

Name begins “Sir”.

Studied at Cambridge.

Has hosted many tv series & had many books published… had a bit of a media fracas a good while ago following some ill-judged/offensive comments, but career very much continued…

My family are very straight laced and none of their friends who are all professionals in advanced fields misbehave.
So my sisters wedding was a disaster thanks to my now ex husband who I was disgusted with.
He got completely rat arsed and I found him outside the marquee entrance lying on the ground covered in vomit, all the guests were stepping over him.
I've never been so embarrassed in all my life, then later he was staggering about outside and tripped over the electricity cables and all the lights in the marquee went out.
This wedding was being attended by diplomats and various other people like that.
I divorced him soon after, he'd done this more than once and I just felt it was disgusting behaviour from a grown man.

holy trinity, and what field do you operate in ?

I’ve seen the dirty bit.

Haven’t we all, in the days when Marlon Brando had a certain oomph. 😂😂😂

SatsumaDog · 09/02/2026 16:01

I’ve been quite fortunate. The worst I’ve seen is some dodgy dancing near the end of the evening and a few people having had too much to drink. No fights or very bad behaviour. I think it’s unforgivable to spoil someone’s wedding day.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 09/02/2026 16:03

A family wedding many years ago. A fair distance from where we all lived so a coach was hired to take us all there and back. Got to the reception and there was a buffet which the other side’s family swarmed over like a plague of locusts so we held back thinking we could go up when they had all got their food. Well the buffet table was decimated and not replenished so there we were, stuck forty miles from home, all hungry and with no means to drive anywhere to get food. The highlight of the day was an aunt on the other side getting pass-out drunk whereby several of the men would drag her to the venue’s kitchen and hold her head under the tap. She passed out and was revived under the tap three times until they left her unconscious in a corner to sleep it off. It’s fair to say they were a rough bunch. 😂
