Has anyone been to Bulgaria on a family holiday?

If so, was it any good? Currently planning summer holidays and I’m quite sick of the usual Spanish/Greek islands. Never been to Bulgaria or really considered it but the prices look a lot cheaper than the European countries. Looking at the sunny beach area in particular but open to anywhere with a relatively short transfer time to the airport, all inclusive and good entertainment for the kids.

I have absolutely no knowledge at all about this country so would love some tips or opinions thank you.

My mum took my eldest son a couple of years ago. My son liked it and enjoyed the history . My mum said it was nice but she wouldn't go back and most of the other guests were a bit benidorm

We've booked Sunny Beach, Bulgaria this year. We've never been before. I've heard good and bad regarding the resort to be honest. We have chosen accommodation more towards Sveti Vlas, rather than in the thick of it. We are planning on hiring a car, so we can go further afield too. We don't like holidays where we're in the hotel, around the pool all day, every day - it would bore us. Last year we went to Zakyinthos and Icmeler in Turkey.
