Soundproofing gaming room

mynamechangemyrules · 07/02/2026 00:12

My middle child loves gaming and we all hate hearing him on calls with his friends while he plays. Our house is small and his room is tiny.

I keep being pushed soundproofing panels on social media and I just can’t believe they work. Am I being unreasonable in saying that?

if I’m BU what have you used and how well did it work?

How old is your middle child?

They will work somewhat but not to completely block the sound. For that you'll need proper soundproofing wall which is installed about an inch away from existing walls. If the room is tiny, that's not really an option because you loose about a foot of space on all sides. Plus, the sound will still permeate through the door and window frames.
Much simpler to teach your middle child not to shout at the screen. My next door neighbour is a gamer and his parents clearly didn't alert him that yelping for half a night is anti-social.

Make sure you purchase from a UK site or proper UK shop (b&q or somewhere) because the soundproofing you buy online (Amazon, temu etc) probably hasn't passed fire regulations.

Thanks for the tips. He’s not terrible to be fair to him- it is evenings at the weekend when he games between 7-10pm. it just triggers his older brother and we all live on top of each other a bit so thought soundproofing might tone it down. He doesn’t shout, it’s just constant chat, like a grown up on the phone sound level.
