Mandelson at the heart of New Labour: Blair, Brown, Kinnock, Starmer

Mandelson has been involved at the heart of New Labour with very close associations with Neil Kinnock, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Kier Starmer, David Lammy, Wes & the rest of the cabinet. The police are investigating the Prince of Darkness for allegedly selling state secrets to the highest bidder & taking cuts from deals with dodgy people. However, I still think Labour will stay in power until 2029.

is it reasonable to think Labour will stay in power to 2029. All the Labour politicians MPs want to keep their jobs, so will keep their mouths shut.

I don't think anyone except Farage wants a general Election now.

No one wants an election. What Starmer did or didn't know about his relationship with Epstein is in question but absolutely no one knew that Mandelson was leaking information.

I don't think even Farage wants an election now. He's on record as saying Reform's not ready. Labour will hang on until its last breath, as it's unlikely to be in government again in my lifetime.

I never thought Labour would be the antidote to the Tories that a lot of people hoped it would be when they voted this government into power.
But I never expected this level of mess.

Personally I'm cynical that any political party can provide a decent and principled and effective government going forward for the simple reason that the vast majority of people are no longer decent and principled, and this includes politicians.

I can't see this forcing a general election on a party with a 170 seat majority.

Auroraloves · 07/02/2026 11:26

Hopefully this will lead to the slow death of the Labour Party.

Pretty much. What people don't realise is that Labour has been in power for only a third of the last century and 10 of those years were Blair.

They have a long history of being an extremely weak opposition power. They make a complete dog's breakfast of everything, every time they're in and that is why it's so long before anyone will ever trust them again. Things have to be absolutely dire before they're voted back in.

Don't want risk being voted out for this very reason alone and won't call an election
