Are sore boobs always a pregnancy sign?!

I have a teen so I can’t remember if I had this when I was pregnant with her but for the last 3 days I have been in a lot of pain with my boobs as well as some pulling / cramping type pains
The boob pain wakes me up it’s so bad and a few shooting pains through them as well as tenderness
I’m not even due on for another 8/9 days but have taken a few tests which are negative

Help!

It can happen because of Perimenopause as well.

No, if your pregnant enough to have sore boob's then you would be pregnant enough for a positive pregnancy test.

I was getting sharp shooting pains in my nipples. Doctor said its completely normal due to hormonal changes. Even though 42 and have never had them before.

If your worried, no harm in getting checked out by a doctor.

For me, that happens pretty much every month for the duration of the two weeks post ovulation. It hasn't always happened but certainly has for the last few years. So it's definitely not always a sign of pregnancy! If it's unusual for you, I'd guess it's likely going to be one of 3 things - 1. a one off weirdness, 2. a lasting change to how your body does things, or 3. a pregnancy.

Whatever you want the outcome to be, I hope that happens for you. 🙂

I’ve never had it before my period is due - I’m not peri as just had a lot of tests but it makes sense that if it was pregnancy related the tests would be positive so I’ll have to just wait and see!

Sore boobs is just life for me. Before and during every period. That said if it is totally new to you, you need to look into why.

Poetnojo · 06/02/2026 13:19

I get sore boots before my period, only started over the last few years, I'm mid forties.
I did get it very early in my 3 pregnancies too though, so when it first happened related to my periods I had a little panic.

Would periods not have changed a bit if peri?
Just spoke with the doctor who said it can’t be peri related if periods are still regular which they are

I only had lots of test a few months ago before DH has his vasectomy reversal done

Mine are still like clockwork but I only started with the sore boobs every month recently

I wonder what causes this to just start if the hormones are still balanced enough for regular periods
Hope you are dealing with the pain ok 💕

No your periods wouldn’t necessarily have changed if peri, my mum has been peri since 35 and only by 45 did she notice any changes to her cycle

It’s because especially early peri your ovaries still ovulate quite consistently, it’s the oestrogen and progesterone that can change month to month so your periods can still be right on time but the changes to the other hormones cause new symptoms x
