Is this benefitting her or women in general? I’m really unimpressed

nb: this post is about Emily atack and her latest extremely sexual photos in the press

Why why why!!!!! She’s already successful, lots of money, seemingly intelligent and has a child and partner. Why why why do women keep wanting to come across as sex dolls? I really don’t understand especially as she has spoken about her experience of sexual assault before. Do so many women feel like the most important thing to them in life is still being classed as a ‘wanted, needed by men, sexual being’ above everything else? This can’t be for money purposes.

What reaction?

Misogyny and slut shaming from the likes of the OP it would seem...

Your entire post was dripping with misogyny.

Absolutely not the case. I just wouldn’t want my own daughter growing up seeing women like her in the spotlight clearly selling herself via sex and normalising this behaviour. Surely there’s more to life? Come on women, move past the obsession of sex, regardless of it it’s for yourself, other women or men.

How come every time a man does something we don’t like, we’re quick to point out that NAMALT, but when a woman does something, we rush to ask herself how it impacts public perception of all women?

I’m sure Emily’s main concern when taking this job was how much it paid, and not how it would impact feminism.

Having just seen this thread I have just seen Chappell Roan at the Grammy ceremony.

I'd never even heard of her. But there she is topless and with nipple rings. Is she any good as an artist ? Who cares? So long as she gets her kit off for the attention she will do ok.

How can any one say it's is doing women any favours when women artists only get noticed by how little clothing they wear.

Feminism lost it's way many years ago.

How have you never heard of Chappell Roan?! She is a queer pop icon. Her performances, costume and general aesthetic are camp and extravagant, with strong burlesque, cabaret, and drag influences. Chappell Roan's a character, an alter-ego of the singer. She's rebellious and risqué.

She's won Best International Song and Artist at the BRIT Awards 2025, Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys. HOT TO GO was certified quadruple platinum in the UK, Pink Pony Club was a number one single here and her most recent single is playing right this moment on BBC Radio 2.

What's wrong with liking sex?

CoffeeMumForever · 03/02/2026 14:34

Because she must know the reaction it will have? I’m not condoning this, just pointing out the reality

The reaction?

From men?

Men who will sexually assault any women or girl they want regardless if she's a nun wearing a full habit, or a woman on the beach in a bikini, or a child wearing dungarees?

Your attitude is abhorrent.

The 'reaction' from men to her modelling underwear is entirely on them and NOTHING to do with her.

Why should I move past sex? I like sex. There's nothing anti-feminist about wearing sexy underwear for myself, or for my partner, or to take pictures in.

Anti-feminism would not be having any choice, but to do that.

Why do you think you have the right to lecture other women like that.

Better keep her away from all the male stars who pose in their undies for lucrative deals also then aye.

She isn’t selling herself via sex, she got offered a paid job and she took it, she isn’t flashing her baps for free outside of Tesco

ChurchWindows · 03/02/2026 14:45

Nothing changes. I remember the fuss about the 'Hello Boys' advert. That was 30 years ago and here we still are having exactly the same kind of conversations.

Most people want to be seen as attractive and sexy.

At a guess you are neither and bitter?

What is wrong with a woman enjoying sex?

Why should people ‘move past sex’? What’s wrong with sex? I like sex. Maybe Emily Atack likes sex, and likes looking sexy.
You still haven’t explained what that has to do with her experience of SA?

Or maybe it’s a woman who is comfortable is her own skin and is happy to show that? You’re the one so determined to sexualise it and use it to justify attacks.

What's wrong with loving sex? Why is that bad, exactly? Sex is meant to be enjoyable. It's a completely normal and natural human instinct to be into it.

As already mentioned she's not doing a fans only gig, she's modelling AP's underwear range same as Rosie for M&S albeit more in your face as it's AP.

Why do you think you have the right to tell all women what to do? Like many others have said, I like sex, I like being sexy. I can also be a serious, intelligent woman at the same time.

I’m also a marketers dream because I have disposable income to play with and you’ve just sent me straight to the AP website. Nice work OP, they should pay you commission.

bookworm14 · 03/02/2026 14:57

It’s an advert for underwear. It’s not her fault the Mail have lifted the photos for their readers to wank over a pretend ‘news story’.

Absolutely this. I was seriously sexually assaulted in the street on my way home from work by a stranger. I am not young, and I was wearing trousers, a high neck jumper and a winter coat. I was attacked because I was a woman on her own and there are a lot of men out there who just see woman and girls as objects, how they are dressed is irrelevant

With respect, if you had never heard of Chappell Roan before today then I imagine you must have been living under a proverbial rock. She is one of the biggest pop stars in the world and is very talented. I would usually recommend giving her album 'The Rise and Fall Of A Mid-West Princess' a listen as it is superb, but, given your 1950s attitudes to female sexuality I fear that some of the lyrics may cause you to have a fit of the vapours!
Seriously though, it might be worth actually finding out more about Chappell, her work and her image before making ill-informed assumptions based on a couple of photos of her at the Grammy Awards.
I find your comments about modern female pop stars in general pretty ignorant to be honest. I am a huge fan of contemporary female pop stars, my favourite is obviously Taylor Swift, but I also love Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, Gracie Abrams and many others. Your comments are very far from representative. Contemporary female pop stars are far more likely to write their own music and play instruments than most of their predecessors were and have far more control over their art, career and image than would have been the case in the past. If they wish to present themselves in a more saucy way, like Sabrina, or a little more conservatively, like Taylor, it does not detract from their talent. It is also worth remembering that the vast majority of their fanbases are comprised of women and girls, so, the idea that they are trying to appease the male-gaze through their presentation feels counter-intuitive.
