To not get the visceral levels of hatred people have for Keir Starmer

I’m not suggesting he’s the greatest prime minister ever. I’m not even suggesting he’s good at all. But some people really, really passionately hate him.

He is a bit insipid and doesn’t have much charisma but overall he seems like a decent enough bloke who perhaps lacks the political skill and acumen he needs. He’s out of his depth basically.

But that’s not a reason to actually despise someone is it?

When did we get to a point where we can’t just disagree without painting the other person as the devil incarnate?

I didn't vote Labour in the last election

I didn't vote Labour in the last election

neither did I as I’m in the SE and in a constituency where labour cannot win. I voted LD and will vote tactically to ensure that reform or the Tories will not gain power again.

This is how many people will be thinking come the next GE in… checks notes.. 3 and a half years will act.

scalt · 29/01/2026 21:35

While I loathe the Tories and reform, and Labour is the least worst as far as I am concerned, my biggest disappointment with Starmer is that while he was in opposition, he and his team said NOT ONE SINGLE WORD about the massive harms that prolonged lockdowns were causing to our children. In that respect, he completely failed to be the opposition, as far as I’m concerned.

Keir Starmer was not responsible for the decision not to prosecute Saville. That was the CPS. While I'm not particularly impressed by this government so far, politicians are human beings and the levels of vitriol they're subjected to are alarming. The far right are stirring it up and I fear it will lead to another politician being hurt or murdered

Agree, he wasn’t responsible for the decision not to prosecute, however he was head of the CPS and had to apologise for their shortcomings. You don’t apologise if there’s nothing to apologise for 🤷🏼‍♀️

ACommonTreasuryForAll · 29/01/2026 21:36

I agree. But I think it's a reflection of how we as a society have less patience, less nuance, less of a sense of the long game. We've become so inured to the demonisation and othering of many groups in society, dismissing ideas and people out of hand, and the PM gets written off with similar conviction. It's a kind of unholy conglomerate of cult of personality, wild expectations and a culture of zero strikes.

The fact that he took responsibility for a decision he didn’t personally make, as head of the organisation at the time, was a mark in his favour for me. BoJo would have lied and blustered and made stupid jokes rather than front up to anything uncomfortable.

Really? I find that astonishing. He has broken every manifesto promise and introduced serious policies like removing juries, which he has no mandate for.
He has sold Britain down the river to the globalists in Davos.
You must have a very superficial understanding of politics, OP.

This-^^

I can't have an ounce of respect for someone who can't accurately articulate what a woman is.

I have said the same many times
he is a very well educated man who wouldn’t say what a women is . so he’s an absolute Tosser just for that .

I would really really like to ask him does he really believe that a man can give birth or is he just really just thick and stupid

To me he comes across as smarmy and very very boring he has a face like a wet fish that’s been stuck on the frozen counter a few days past his sell by date

he’s got no conviction on what he says and you just know that anything he announces is going to be reversed within a few days

can’t wait for him and the whole Labour Party to fuck off

Mr Starmer was head of the CPS when the decision was made not to prosecute Savile but he was not the reviewing lawyer for the case. An official investigation commissioned later by Starmer criticised both prosecutors and police for their handling of the allegations.

Keir Starmer led the CPS when it did not charge Jimmy Savile, but he wasn’t the reviewing lawyer – Full Fact

Keir Starmer was Director of Public Prosecutions when it was decided there was insufficient evidence to charge Savile, but he was not the reviewing lawyer on the case.

The problem is that so many other prime ministers had the habit of promising miracles, and the moon on a stick

I never realised how many voters want the moon on a stick

iloveecats · 29/01/2026 21:43

He’s done Nothing to improve state schools. In fact they’ve got worse, it seems. The education of young people in this country is a scandal, but he never talks about it. Let alone do anything about it.

Too busy hob nobbing in Davos or a.n.other country to bother about the children and adults in this one.

Lonelycrab · 29/01/2026 21:45

This Davos talk marks posters out as conspiracy sucker drivel imo

I think you’ve had too much internet

AmIthatSpringy · 29/01/2026 21:46

I'm not a labour voter but I do think he has brought an element of maturity to government

ive never seen this level of attack from the press before and it is alarm and baffling in equal measure.

he is literally criticised for everything.

I wish he'd tell trump to fuck off, but other than that I have no issues.

Quite. It’s telling that the ones who hate Starmer with the most intensity are the ones wanging on about globalists and Davos.

ForOpalDuck · 29/01/2026 21:48

It’s just a right wing press hatchet job as usual plus the gammons!

iloveecats · 29/01/2026 21:49

How many u turns has Starmer done now? He’s a joke isn’t he really.. lets see (but I def can’t remember them all)..

Starmer u turns so far:
wfa
digital id
workers rights
waspi payments
tuition fees
2 child benefit cap

Anymore? It’s only been 18months

hopefullyme · 29/01/2026 21:50

I agree. I don’t think he’s a very good politician, but don’t understand the hatred. I don’t remember that except back to Margaret Thatcher and there was the same about in certain parts of the country.

Anyone with political nous would not have made one of the first policies the change to Winter Fuel Payments even it meant that it would only come in another Winter later.

Me too
he wasn't there was he?
Although I don't know why he wasn't there

FunnyOrca · 29/01/2026 21:53

He’s a Tory with a red tie.

zoemum2006 · 29/01/2026 21:53

Its multi-faceted:

the right wing have been poisoned against him by the right wing press/ social media. They went for the jugular and haven't relented since the beginning.

The left wing: are disappointed he tried to out reform Reform but he seems to have calmed down now he's realised it won't get him anywhere.

Dollymylove · 29/01/2026 21:56

Abd80 · 29/01/2026 20:29

It’s all the right wing tabloids badmouthing him and anyone from labour
personally I think he’s a silver fox
and a human rights lawyer to boot !

That's the problem. Everyone else's human rights except British citizens.
Hes a lying commie dirtbag
