Are you a pack rat and proud?

I've just opened my backpack at work to get my notebook out and my colleague has just said " oh have you been staying away from home?"
It was just the usual stuff I carry around every day! I have really tried to be a small crossbody bag person but I just feel miserable never having what I want. I spend long days in cities- often leaving home at 6am and not getting home until 10pm and nothing gives me more joy than being in a coffee shop between events, and having my book, my notebook, my wrap if im a bit cold, my toothbrush, my makeup etc etc
Are you an 'everything but the kitchen sink' carrier? If yes do you love it?
I like it, but my bag is very heavy 😀

When the PP said she was a dog-walker, I think she meant that she's a professional dog-walker, not that she walks her dog before an office job.

Yes I know but I was making that point that IF she had a meeting like many of us do, she would need different things. It’s seems that some can’t imagine different lifestyles and struggle to understand that a lip balm in your pocket won’t cut it.

But it also appears that you can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t need a hairbrush or wouldn’t need to carry tons of stuff about with him.

Yeah if I'm going out from work I'll brush my teeth, refresh make up, perfume spritz etc

You must have a strong neck & back OP. My upper back & neck are suffering.
I have to lug around a back back - laptop, charger, A5 notebook, small planner, umbrella, shoes ( I walk to tube in my trainers), makeup, perfume, small water bottle. Sometimes lunch .
id like to carry a book for the tube and a gym kit but cant carry anymore.

Depends on what I’m doing . Crossbody for day to day and backpack for days out . Larger backpack if I’m days out with the dogs as I have portable bowls , extra water and snacks .

Never heard the term “pack rat” before. I like to use the term “backpack babe” ha ha!

I got a backpack from Amazon last year, which has been life changing. It has a compartment inside specially for your lunch bag, a side compartment for my brolly and one for my giant water bottle. Also, lots of pockets inside for my travel and work pass, headphones etc.
I carry the kitchen sink around with me (I’m not a minimalist commuter, unfortunately). I have to carry my laptop, make up touch up bag, glasses, keys, headphones, charger, tissues, diary etc etc with me to the office. We hot desk, so I can’t really leave anything at work.

Do you have kids @packratandproud ?

Ooh I like the idea of backpack babe. Can you link your lovely bag?

Yes Ive always carried a lot of stuff round with me and have been through a myriad of work bags and work rucksacks

I carry things like laptop, medicines, water, headphones for work, charger for work, torch for walking home, shopping bags, odds and ends, work phone, own phone, purse, keys, badges etc etc

In my handbags, which I dont take to work, I have slightly less but I like to have everything with me that I might need.

Just came across this thread. This is totally me, people often comment on the amount of stuff I carry around, but then I am always the one that has the plaster, wet wipe etc that someone else needs!

Muffsies · 24/04/2026 17:08

I used to be a huge bag with everything in it person. Tools, magnets, face wipes, first aid, tweezers, nail clippers, string.. endless stuff all in a backpack style handbag.

I literally just use a bumbag/money belt now with my phone and chapstick. I don't know what happened, perhaps it's another sign of the peri-menopause! (added that to annoy some posters - you know who you are). I just can't be arsed anymore, i suddenly hate being weighed down, and i don't feel the need to be prepared for everything any more. i like to have my hands and shoulders free!
