To think people wish their life away rounding up their age

Seems to be quite common I’ve just seen someone say they were 33 then sated not till June. Why are we taking away months of our lives.

People often change subtle details on here for identification reasons.

I think your life stays the same length no matter what age you call yourself!

Reassurancells · 28/01/2026 17:49

Why do you care? Whats the issue?

CloakedInGucci · 28/01/2026 17:50

But they aren’t actually taking months away from their life.
Saying you’re 33 when you aren’t that for 5 months is a bit odd, but it’s not wishing your life away.

YABU. what a weird thing to think! Saying you're the age your nearest to does not take any months off your life. You are still the age you are.

You know they're not going to die any earlier just because they said the wrong age?

I round down. Ive been 20 for 14 years 😂

I thought you were implying people rounding their age to 60, when they’re like 56?! To round to next birthday is perfectly reasonable tho imho. Having said that I’m clinging to 39…… even tho I’m 40 soon and hanging on by a thread to 39 🤣

It's funny I never used to round up my age.

But now I'm getting on a bit I find 3 or 4 months before my next birthday I start thinking mentally that I have already reached that age. It actually worries me a bit.

I recently had to go for an operation and before it they gave me 3 questions to make sure I was compos mentis and one of them was How old are you? Luckily I was able to give the right age but I had to stop myself saying the age I will be in April. So perhaps I'm not as compos mentis as I like to think I am.

When I was young it was considered rude to ask a woman their age.
When it was my mother's birthday we used to be desperate to know how old she was but all we got told was " 21 again".
I didn't find out my mother's true age until I was a teenager.

"Thirty-five is a very attractive age. London society is full of women of the very highest birth who have, of their own free choice, remained thirty-five for years. Lady Dumbleton is an instance in point. To my own knowledge she has been thirty-five ever since she arrived at the age of forty, which was many years ago now." (Importance of Being Earnest)
