DurableMatts · 28/01/2026 13:30

Dsis has in the 12 months, moved into a new house (not first house purchase) decorated the house entirely in less than 6months,new kitchen, new bathrooms, new furniture, had solar panels installed. Bought 2 new cars…been on a holiday and a few weekends away (which was the norm for them anyway I suppose) bought a mulberry handbag…do you think they won the lotto? 😂 should I ask?

I really dont see the point in asking nosey questions...if they wanted you to know they would have just told you, surely!

Allseeingallknowing · 28/01/2026 15:30

Hasn’t this been posted before?

No it’s not in finance etc…they don’t even have credit cards and are very against debt on a whole. It’s a 5 bed house!! I’m gonna ask! Watch this space!

also they do have good jobs…it’s just A LOT of sudden spending 😅

Considering they deliberately haven’t shared with you how/why they’ve spent this money, there is clearly no way you can no for sure that it’s not on some sort of finance

Has one of your parents died without you noticing?

Or maybe DSis's DH/DP has had an inheritance? Much more likely.

No they are all alive and kicking, dsis’s dh’s parents are not in the kind of financial position to give money.

Definitely drugs then.

If she's won the lottery and wanted you to know, she'd have told you.

MajorProcrastination · 28/01/2026 16:37

Is it a smaller house? So could she have made money from the sale of her previous house and put it into the refurbishments? Doesn't totally explain the cars and holidays though. Just ask her!? In a lighthearted way perhaps. Or in a "I wish we could do up our kitchen, how did you find the money for yours?" or ask for her advice "I'm rubbish at saving, how did you get together the money for all this? I'd love to do the same".
She might've got herself into loads of debt by using loans and credit cards, I think it's best to ask.

I would be careful! I have a friend who is notoriously tight with money, always on the look out for a bargain (nothing wrong with that I know). But she'd berate me for spending 8 quid on a jumper, saying 'I'd never spend that much on a jumper'. Never buying coffee shop drinks, always going for the cheapest item on the menu even if it wasn't what she enjoyed the most - you get the picture. Then suddenly, she was buying coffee in a coffee shop and offering to get me one too. Bought a new TV,and was looking at clothes in more expensive clothes shops instead of the usual Primark. When this had been going on for a couple of weeks,I couldn't resist saying 'Have you won the lottery?'. She looked mystified, and when I explained that she was spending more than usual, she got the right ache! Seemed rather offended to be honest. I never did find out what happened!

TheLemonLemur · 28/01/2026 17:24

Sounds like they have taken a bigger mortgage or extended term. I sold first home and bought a new one last year and going through mortgage application was asked how much I wanted to keep back from the sale for any outgoings eg solicitiors, removals, home improvements

Beakthrough · 28/01/2026 17:27

If it was my sister I'd say blimey Sis have you won the lottery? As you haven't, I suspect you shouldn't.

I wouldn't necessarily expect her to tell me where lit csme from though. She'd probably joke about DH's drug trade or her OF account.

Mama2many73 · 28/01/2026 17:32

What's the saying
If I won the lottery (I wouldn't say but...) there'd be signs!

I think its already weird someone hasn't already said have you lot won the lottery or what?!! In our family we would have done. However not sure how id react if they said 'no. Its Only Fans!!' 😆

I remember saying to a friend once, did you win the lottery, when they went from a modest two bed to a five bed detached. Her dh was very financially astute. Tbf though it took them about ten years before they got a new kitchen! 😄

I had a similar friend. All of a sudden she moved from a very small 3-bed semi to a mansion, with an in and out drive, a swimming pool and probably about 6 bedrooms, all with ensiuites. No idea how.

Shrinkhole · 28/01/2026 17:49

It’ll all be on credit cards. That’s the usual answer

ConflictofInterest · 28/01/2026 18:05

I think you've got to ask the other way around and nod knowingly and say you're glad she's made so much money from only fans/drugs then she'll feel obliged to tell you she's won the lottery out of embarrassment. I'd never tell my family if I won the lottery, I'd never hear the end of it. They'd just experience good luck after that where things they needed would randomly get paid for or gifted to them anonymously.

Womaninhouse17 · 28/01/2026 18:14

Robbed a bank?

Pipsquiggle · 28/01/2026 18:43

I am assuming you have ruled out the obvious:
*promotion at work
*new job
*inheritance or gift from a relative on her husband's side

Toottooot · 28/01/2026 19:29

Big win on Bounty?

Crikey. Maybe she did have a win! Of maybe it was Omaze 😁 (or did she marry a footballer!).

Thedefault · 28/01/2026 22:55

She might have won! If I won a sum of money that would help us be financially comfortable I probably wouldn't tell my family in case they expected more than I was willing to give.

boobaaaa · 29/01/2026 10:29

I would ask in a jokey way. Like ‘how the hell have you managed to afford all of this?’, unless you don’t have a jokey type relationship and then I don’t have any advice x

DurableMatts · 29/01/2026 10:41

So I asked when I called over last night! She laughed and said no…they sold their last house at a great profit and dh has had a significant pay rise and bonus. She was waiting for someone to say something. I didn’t asked her if she had one of the lotto would she have told us… she said no and laughed 😂😂😂

I particularly love this update as I was right! Haha! Good for them.
