Hair dresser and highlights

zeamus1500 · 28/01/2026 11:38

Hi..I had an appointment with a new hairdresser and I didn't go well.

I don't like how bright my hair is but still like highlights..
She said that putting bleach on is going to lighten it. So what can she do? I think it being highlighted, but not as bright.

Ps that's my crown not a bold patch

Do you mean you want caramel highlights not ash ??
although yours looks like a mixture of caramel and ash to me ?? (Not a hairdresser btw)

zeamus1500 · 28/01/2026 11:42

I really don't know what the colours are. It's been 7 months since I've had a colour btw

Not much help but I think the colour is lovely

Every time I get mine done I worry they'll be orange or golden. Yours are exactly what I aim for

Have you tried blue shampoo? If you are a natural brunette it helps..

Ask for a darker shade of toner

She said she's putting bleach on it so it will make it lighter

Toner goes on after bleaching to achiever a different result. Toners can be any colour of the rainbow and any depth. Either hairdresser doesn't know what she is doing or you couldn't explain exactly what you wanted. Probably both.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 28/01/2026 12:26

Bleach first then toner to set the colour is what they need to do.

Nairsmellsbad · 28/01/2026 12:57

I’m not sure what you are trying to achieve here? If it’s too bright now, why would you put bleach on it?
It looks to me as though the highlights are not the best colour for you, as the contrast with the rest of your hair seems quite harsh. So maybe for now toner is the way to go then look at a different colour next time you have highlights? Just a suggestion, obviously.

MrsMAFs · 28/01/2026 12:59

it just needs a toner over the top to get it how you want it by the sounds of it however if you're not happy with that salon ask around and try another one.

MrsMAFs · 28/01/2026 13:00

The other solution would be 'baby lights' which are a really fine highlight with low lights (a darker colour) or a colour in between which would give a bigger contrast and make it look darker overall.

user946372 · 28/01/2026 13:01

You need a different hairdresser. Ask them to tone it to a deeper shade (maybe an 8 neutral based on what you say). Don't get any more highlights added!

You don't put bleach on highlighted hair. It would be the roots

Not sure I follow.
Was the appointment to put in the colour/highlights in the photo? And it's lighter than you wanted? (If so why not ask for toner? Why is bleach being discussed?)
Or to discuss/agree future colour for the roots? She wants to bleach and you dont want that, but you'll surely need bleach to lift and match the roots, and then a darker toner all over?
Or something else?

zeamus1500 · 28/01/2026 13:23

It was for all over highlights as it's been 6 months.

I don't like the contrast with my natural hair and bleached hair. It's too much now

I think you need low lights with a warmer tone and less ashy. Not a hairdresser and useless at hair though so feel free to Ignore

Idontjetwashthefucker · 28/01/2026 13:30

My hairdresser uses bleach but my toner is a caramel shade, I then have my root colour pulled through here and there so it doesn't go too light

Can you see a regrowth?

After around 4 weeks it starts to come through a little but I'm going grey so it's noticeable. I have it done every 5 weeks

zeamus1500 · 28/01/2026 14:49

This is also my hair colour yesterday. So it depends on light and how I've done my hair
