TikTok suppressing anti Trump/ICE/Epstein content

It’s made the news that anti Trump content is being removed from TikTok following it being bought up by an American company a few days ago.

https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/tiktok-epstein-trump-censorship-ice-b2908309.html

I’m in the UK and have noticed some content not loading properly or glitching.

It baffles me that some seem to be of the opinion that lack of free speech and authoritarianism in the U.K. is the reason they will be voting for Reform despite the fact that Farage is the British embodiment of Trump, and it’s likely that those people will find a way to justify it if Farage says it’s a good thing just like they were all for banning the BBC etc.

Thoughts?

TikTok users in the US can’t write ‘Epstein’ or see anti-Trump videos

The fact that people actually use Tiktok as their source of news is frightening enough to me
I see Starmer has jumped on to the Tiktok band wagon announcing the policy change on leasehold there.

It’s not necessarily ‘news’ but it’s citizens speaking out about what’s going on there, discussing news etc. Regardless, whether you agree with it isn’t the point. It’s no different to anyone else having a discussion.

Why is it frightening?

There are plenty of good, factual, news channels on there.

There are also plenty of people speaking out on their platforms about stuff the mainstream new doesn't tell us about.

Not saying that there's not also a load of shit too, but the same can be said of papers and TV news as well. You just have to choose your sources carefully.

Well yes if anti Trump/ ICE/Epstein content is being suppressed then of course it's a bad thing. But my feeling is why would anyone expect balanced content on Tiktok anyway?

Exactly, as long as you don’t use tiktok as your only source of information and read widely with a healthy dose of scepticism, I don’t see an issue. All the mainstream newspapers have channels on there, and all the political parties. Farage in particular is benefitting from a TikTok presence a lot 🤣

I thought a lot of people used Tiktok for their only source of information on everything?

I like to know the veracity of news I digest.

Not me. I read a lot of sources because I think it’s really important to be properly informed and I wish more people felt the same.

You’re missing the point though, it’s not about whether you agree with what’s on there, it’s that people can’t bang on about free speech and accuse others of not having free speech and then suppress dissent. Free speech for me, not for thee.

I forgot to say that if the video is glitching or not loading and you want to see it, just download it to your phone and you can watch it that way.

There have been claims that TikTok is suppressing certain content, including posts critical of Trump, ICE, and Epstein. Users have raised concerns about censorship, though the platform denies any targeted bias. Check out the discussion on tiktok laughing emoji.
