To ask Does any one actually go clubbing any more?

My ds just turned 18, and I thought that he would be going to pubs and clubs with his college friends. This doesn't seem to be the case at all. They all seem to stay at home.

I've also noticed a lot of posters and adverts around my local area for over 30s and over 40s events. Day discos. Does any one actually go properly clubbing any more? I haven't been myself since a hen night probably 15 years ago, and it was crap. Dirty, sticky floors, tables and glasses, crap music, not many people dancing and a really aggressive, swearing DJ bloke.

Probably a good thing, as I remember binge drinking being a massive problem when I was young. It must be saving a fortune for the police and the NHS to no longer have this binge drinking culture. I used to work in a town centre as a driver years ago, and would see people being sick in the street at 10pm. It wasn't pleasant.

I am now indoors by 6pm, getting settled with curtains drawn. How are these clubs still in business?

I would struggle to know where there are any clubs!! Saying that I do enjoy a daytime disco 🤣 that’s at a ‘venue’ and not a club. All the ones I used to frequent in the 90s round here are gone.

TestTubeTina · 28/01/2026 18:58

I think kids go to a lot of festivals - things like Boomtown are big drink / drug events.

PinterandPirandello · 28/01/2026 18:59

There are some great day discos for the more, ahem, mature crowd in the big cities. I like Annie Mac and the Day Fever ones. My young adult dc and their friends don’t really like clubbing.

Lurleene · 28/01/2026 19:22

Tinie Tempah was on Graham Norton this week and said dance music is more for the gym these days as people don't go clubbing like they used to.

cinnamongirl123 · 28/01/2026 19:36

My friend’s 18yo daughter and her friends do, in London. They stay out all night and come home in the morning.

What you’ve described doesn’t really sound like clubbing… crap music and no one dancing? Thats not proper clubbing. Pulling an all nighter in places like Fabric and The End - that was clubbing!

Fabric ! ❤️ I’ve still got loads of the CD mixes in the aluminium packages, still awesome to this day.
i think they’re quite collectible now too

Jellybunny56 · 28/01/2026 20:16

Yes people do, all the pubs/bars/clubs in our city are rammed with queues every weekend. I have 2 under 2 so I’m certainly not in those queues but have lots of friends who are!

Funny how back in the late 90s/early 2000s you’d have to get SO dressed up to go out to mainstream clubs - men and women - you couldn’t get in with trainers on or jeans lol. Then it seemed to change in the mid 2000s and it was much more trendy to wear trainers and whatever you wanted really

Trainers, combats and a vest top with a ‘scrunchie’ in your Pocket for hair up time when it was sticking to your back, and not caring how shiny your face was-happy days 😊

Propagandalf · 28/01/2026 20:43

If you like dance music, then you still have original franchises such as Cream, Ministry of Sound, Passion, Godskitchen, Gatecrasher and many others, all still going. Yes it's not weekly anymore but I easily fill my calendar up with 20-30 nights throughout the year and book a cheap airbnb.

Day events are just as good as night events.

I bump into people who I went out with back 25 years ago. These events attract an older crowd or at least good range of ages, 20s to 50s, even 60s.

For tickets, use Skiddle, not Ticketmaster. Skiddle does all of the raves type events.

I find it sad that people nowadays prefer watching TikTok and reels rather than interacting with people in real life.

Carpedimum · 28/01/2026 20:52

Yes, but they’re very odd to my mind because they don’t dress up at all! Jeans, trainers & t-shirts are worn which is odd to someone like me who went to clubs in the 80s and 90s wearing skirt suits and attire that would have suited a wedding! 🤣

Pandorea · 28/01/2026 20:53

My nearly 18 year old has been going to lots of gigs for the last 18 months or so, but wouldn’t be fussed about a club unless there was a live gig he liked in it. My other two (19 and 22) are at uni and go to clubs a bit but not that enthusiastically. They seem to go to pubs and bars more.
I’m not sure if clubs are really seen as pick up places in the way they used to be - pre dating apps. Maybe that’s a factor.

Agreed. Im 54 and have been going to raves/clubbing since 1988. A few of the clubs we used to go to back in the day have re-opened in my city and there's a good mix of 20s through to 60s but a lot of old timers like us and a really good atmosphere. Agree day events as good as night ones. Lots of DJ events on skiddle. Have Seb Fontaine, Judge Jules and Sasha club nights booked and will go to Reminisce festival which has a good mix of age groups. It is different. That perfect storm of the birth of house music and the availability of ecstasy was wild and something we'll probably never see again. A lot of the 20 somethings go and see DJs and just stand filming with their mobiles. Similarly will go to gorgeous bars but just sit there with one drink to get Instagram photos. They dont seem to have as much fun as we used to do.

MarkSkiddie · 28/01/2026 21:55

@XiCi Sasha ❤️ used to go to a place in Worthing years ago called Sterns and he played there, in his formative years, saw him lots after that, he’s a stellar DJ and producer, hope you have loads of fun, you know what is great we can listen to this stuff all day long whilst working via pods, it makes me happy and productive

24caratgoldlabubu · 28/01/2026 22:22

Truthfully, I think main reason is probably that people can't afford to go out anymore.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 28/01/2026 22:50

I’m 27 and pre children we clubbed a lot… since kids not so much but we did go out just after Christmas with some old work friends and ended up in a club. It was pretty busy and I was pretty happy to not be the oldest person there. I felt fucking awful the day after though I was so glad my dad had the kids and didn’t bring them back till 3… original plan was bring them home for 12 but he did us a solid.

AbbaDabbaDooh · 28/01/2026 23:21

I'm going to a night that finishes at 11pm - perfect 😂

Mumofteenandtween · 28/01/2026 23:45

I wonder if internet dating is part of it as well. In the 90s once you had worked your way through those in your wider friendship group that you found even vaguely attractive then the only way to find someone new was to go clubbing. But these days there are dozens of ways of meeting new people and you don’t even have to leave your living room!

We're actually leaving at 10ish to get the train 😆. And tbf I don't feel like going but I've got the ticket now 🤣

Crushed23 · 29/01/2026 22:06

Where I live, old school clubbing has been replaced by:

-Raves in big warehouse-type venues
-Day festivals in parks or on a pier
-Rooftop bars, and cocktail bars in general, some with dance floors, some not
-House parties

There’s less binge drinking now, especially among the youngsters, but also a hell of a lot more drug use (mainly because it’s cheaper).

My friend’s 18yo daughter and her friends do, in London. They stay out all night and come home in the morning.

I’m 36, and DP and I got home at 8:30am on Sunday morning after leaving the apartment Saturday 9pm to go to a house party then a rave then onto an after party.

Picked up bagels on the way home, then slept all day Sunday.

It makes me happy just thinking about it. 😁

The End! Best club in the world. ❤️

Im 47 and I still go a few times a year, I’m very selective about where I go though, has to be an older crowd.

Sounds fantastic - I hope DP and I are still doing this at 50! How old are your kids? We think we’re gonna start TTC in late 2027 so I am desperate to make the most of the 18 months or so before then - so many festivals planned! I really hope being parents doesn’t make us give up something that makes us oh so happy. ☺️

Clubs were different back in the 80’s/90’s so glad I lived out my youth back then we had soo much fun! Think it’s more gigs and drinks at home with Netflix !
