To ask Does any one actually go clubbing any more?

My ds just turned 18, and I thought that he would be going to pubs and clubs with his college friends. This doesn't seem to be the case at all. They all seem to stay at home.

I've also noticed a lot of posters and adverts around my local area for over 30s and over 40s events. Day discos. Does any one actually go properly clubbing any more? I haven't been myself since a hen night probably 15 years ago, and it was crap. Dirty, sticky floors, tables and glasses, crap music, not many people dancing and a really aggressive, swearing DJ bloke.

Probably a good thing, as I remember binge drinking being a massive problem when I was young. It must be saving a fortune for the police and the NHS to no longer have this binge drinking culture. I used to work in a town centre as a driver years ago, and would see people being sick in the street at 10pm. It wasn't pleasant.

I am now indoors by 6pm, getting settled with curtains drawn. How are these clubs still in business?

What you’ve described doesn’t really sound like clubbing… crap music and no one dancing? Thats not proper clubbing. Pulling an all nighter in places like Fabric and The End - that was clubbing!

FastFood · 27/01/2026 21:08

Binge drinking is still an issue, clubbing or not.

Barrellturn · 27/01/2026 21:09

I teach 18-21 year olds. Not many of them go clubbing. They seem to spend their spare time in coffee shops and tend to socialise online rather than in person.

redskydelight · 27/01/2026 21:21

DD (19) goes clubbing most weeks (Wednesday student night).
But she stays home most other nights.

And there does seem to be an awful lot of students that don't go to pubs and clubs at all. I suspect at least part of this is the cost these days.

SENmumof22026 · 27/01/2026 21:23

Clubs are dead here too, i think the soberity/clean living lifestyle has caught onto to many young people.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 27/01/2026 21:25

I don’t think so. It was a given for me in my 20’s and early 30’s 🫣 a lot of nightclubs have closed down in the last decade. I did wonder if the scene was dead.

21ZIGGY · 27/01/2026 21:27

I can't speak for 18year olds, but god no.

This is what I was thinking too!

Nearly 40 here and husband nearing 50 - we go out clubbing loads still

places like ministry of sound, print works, drumsheds, phonox

not so often now we’ve little kids at home.. but still a few times a year and we have a massive group that go out still

we have younger friends as well that we’ve made out at these club nights as well.

i don’t mean those awful neighbourhood clubs where everyone where’s high heels and dances to shite chart music with drinks promotions

HelenHywater · 27/01/2026 21:30

My early 20s dc go clubbing - both at university and at home (in London). I don't think they go as often as I used to though - I used to go 2-3 times a week at my peak. I think it's too expensive to go more often that that these days, and they all do a lot of pre's before they go anywhere.

Helpwithdivorce · 27/01/2026 21:35

It’s hard to find a decent rave these days. I still go Creamfields every year and Miami ultra. Never managed a ticket to Tomorrowland.
Despite living near to a major city the club scene isn’t great. I do go out every few months but it’s not what it was

Happyjoe · 27/01/2026 21:59

Clubbing isn't just about huge venues pumping out dance music!
I used to go clubbing in B'ton, alternative scene way before dance music was invented, lol.. Packed out venues, loud music, loads dancing. Great fun.

Op, absolutely nothing around here, the last club I think shut about 10 years ago? But some pubs are open until 1am.

I do miss cheap gigs though, everything is so expensive and sells out fast, I suppose now artists make so little on actual record sales now they've no choice but to tour?

TheChosenTwo · 27/01/2026 22:15

My older 2 dont drink much, 22 and 21 and even when the oldest goes to the pub she’d rather drink water and drive. Both their circles aren’t especially boozy, they socialise doing things like escape rooms and top golf type stuff, go to the pub to play snooker but drink soft drinks, having each other round for dinner, going to the gym together. All feels a lot more wholesome than when I was young!
I don’t really drink much either, dh drinks more than me but I do wonder if the younger generation is overall more health conscious.
I wouldn’t be interested in clubbing now and neither would dh. A pub with live music can be fun though, mostly I prefer the pub without live music 😂

Same, we were at drumsheds in December and plan to go to Fold soon.
I love a good night out.
A load of my friends sre out this weekend to an event our friends set up.
I am going away though so will miss it Sad

NancyJoan · 27/01/2026 22:21

My DD is 19, and she does, but not every single weekend like I did. She more likely to go to the pub, or stay in with her housemates and have drinks at home. Going out is seriously expensive now. She does go to lots of festivals though, and also will book tickets to see particular DJs at clubs.

gototogo · 27/01/2026 22:26

Definitely do around here, in town they have music until 2am but the youngsters tend to get the late bus into the city to the trendy clubs. Pubs here are packed on weekends, live music or djs in most and we have a lot, 17, for a small town. Not everyone drinks, Clearhead ale is very popular though I don’t care for the taste

familyissues12345 · 27/01/2026 22:29

Eldest is 22 and he and his friends have never really been into clubbing. They’d all rather a night in a pub garden or off playing golf 😁

gototogo · 27/01/2026 22:29

By the way, don’t knock day clubs, I’ve been a few times and it’s such fun, I don’t drink much because they never have decent cask ale and it’s still fun. I’m not adverse to late night either, didn’t get to bed before 2am any nights on our cruise and dh was definitely one of the oldest still up

liveforsummer · 28/01/2026 17:48

DD’s friends do but they are 16/17 with fake ID

gegs73 · 28/01/2026 18:03

DS1 went clubbing once or twice a week when he was at uni in the midlands. It was relatively cheap and easy to get home. That said plenty of his friends didn’t go and preferred being at home. Now he’s back in London, he goes less maybe once a month. It’s expensive and takes ages to get home.

DS2 and about half of his friends have no desire to go whatsoever. They don’t drink and also aren’t mad keen on pubs unless sports on. He’s happier eating out, gigs, football matches, playing sport and cinema. So he spends money but just on different things.

Theda13 · 28/01/2026 18:11

I’m 29 and haven’t bothered since my uni days, even then it was rare. I’ve always preferred gigs or a couple of cocktails at a cocktail bar.

Chinsupmeloves · 28/01/2026 18:16

From what I've observed the younger ones seem to meet at someone's house then go out later so don't do the old pub crawl. Cities seem to be full of people in pubs and clubs, whereas in towns many have shut down.

Going out in the late 1980s and 1990s was a whole different vibe and ao glad I experienced it as a lover of going out. So many pubs and clubs, especially different types, for me rock and alternative were the best!

I still enjoyed going out partying until my early 40s, although with young DC much less so. I would say from about age 45 I lost interest, although I do still like to meet up with friends in pubs but not as often.

Now mid 50s I'm really not that bothered and prefer to have friends here or go round theirs. Just so much cheaper, easier and comfortable! I can only bear loud bars and have the energy to dance about for special occasions lol 😆

The price of a pint, squeezing through pissed crowds etc doesn't have the same appeal anymore. I'd rather be at home in our outdoor garden lounge in comfortable clothes and a bottle of of wine the same price as a glass in a bar. Xxx

Zanatdy · 28/01/2026 18:17

My young adults don’t. DS maybe a handful of times at Uni. But DD (almost 18) doesn’t go out socially.

Chinsupmeloves · 28/01/2026 18:17

Wolverine23 · 27/01/2026 19:54

I went ti a popular one not long ago, Friday night and absolutely no where near as busy as the 90’s when I started going. It was a rare night out and not my thing now but I’m glad I saw it and thank God I experienced the much better era. Sorry but it’s just not as good

Totally agree and the days before mobile phones/modern technology, that was how we lived. Xx

Waitingforthesunnydays · 28/01/2026 18:40

Do city centres still turn into war zones on Friday and Saturday nights? I haven’t been out in a city centre like that for about 20 years! (Live in a smaller town now, not near any big cities) But when I used to go out where I grew up in the early 2000s in a big northern city the city centre was total carnage - people being sick on every street corner, fights everywhere, men walking round with blood dripping down their faces, massive queues outside all the clubs, people shouting and screaming all the time. Police chasing people down. Are big cities (especially up north) still like that??

Waitingforthesunnydays · 28/01/2026 18:49

Funny how back in the late 90s/early 2000s you’d have to get SO dressed up to go out to mainstream clubs - men and women - you couldn’t get in with trainers on or jeans lol. Then it seemed to change in the mid 2000s and it was much more trendy to wear trainers and whatever you wanted really
