Am I missing something? Yes it’s good exercise, yes the studios look insta perfect, yes it’s lovely to do with friends now and again but who can afford the price of the classes on a regular basis? You can’t get it for less than £12 for 45 mins around here and that’s with a discount code!! Are any if you doing it on a regular basis? I would still need gym membership on top if that as I like to do cardio too. It can’t be people going week in / week out surely?

Near me they’re asking £25 per class. Not affordable.

Appaloosa2000 · 26/01/2026 21:50

Would love to do it. Cannot justify the cost.

Aworldofmyown · 26/01/2026 21:50

Ours are £25 a class too! Who is going 😆

HarvestMouseandGoldenCups · 26/01/2026 21:50

I’d love to pay £12! It’s £23-30 a class here in my area of South London. £23 at the YMCA! It’s so annoying as it’s one of the only classes I enjoy.

Amba1998 · 26/01/2026 21:51

£12 is a bargain!!
£25 here

TheChosenTwo · 26/01/2026 21:52

About £30 a class here in Surrey but I have a membership to go twice a week which makes the classes a bit cheaper. Yes it’s in addition to an expensive gym membership because my gym don’t offer it. And in addition to my third hobby which doesn’t cost me much in the winter but does in the summer.
But I really enjoy it so I can justify the price. As can many others based on the full studio (although the one I go to only has 6 spaces).

B1anche · 26/01/2026 21:55

£25 here for an hour. It was a good workout and the teacher was a fully qualified osteopath. I quit in the end because booking a class was like trying to get Glastonbury tickets. I decided I didn't get enough out of it to warrant the price and the effort.

Poetnojo · 26/01/2026 21:58

My Daughter used to go to classes, think they were about 20 quid. We bought her a reformer from Aldi for Christmas for around 150 or thereabouts and she swears it as good as the ones in the classes. She uses it a few times per week and loves it. I've seen Lidl selling them since Christmas too.

Cismyfatarse · 26/01/2026 21:58

I pay about £13 and am going 4 times per week. It really is transformative for me. I am much, much stronger, better balance, toned and feel younger. I took it up in April post weight loss and have really lost years. At 57 my body has never been stronger or more lean looking. I would recommend trying it but I had heard how expensive it can be. I am near Dundee so nothing like that cost. A one off class is £18 but with bulk buy and membership it is much cheaper. I think weights do the same thing but there is more risk of injury.

namechangeformeeee · 26/01/2026 22:00

If you live somewhere with lots of studios it might be worth getting looking into a class pass membership - I pay about 80 a month for a set amount of credits and this usually gets me about 7/8 classes - sometimes more!

JerryTubs · 26/01/2026 22:18

I’ve done it twice and loved it but I really don’t think I could justify £50+ per month (£100 some of you are saying) for a once a week class, surely this business model will just die out? I can’t imagine many people will pay that much for any length of time when you can get gym membership with 100’s of classes a week to choose from. I was just curious whether it was people like me that have done it as a treat 🙈

I’ve tried it a few times but genuinely find regular mat Pilates harder. So as mat is cheaper, I largely stick to that!

Marble10 · 26/01/2026 22:40

The studio near me is always full and people cannot get enough of it. I go once a week, I pay £120 for 8 classes. I also have my gym membership which is £45 which I use an additional 3 times a week.

Pistachiocake · 26/01/2026 22:42

I wouldn't pay it. I suppose for people who have the money and want to do it, it's fine, and I guess some people must pay it. Like with super expensive restaurants holidays and the rest of it.

Fairyliz · 26/01/2026 22:47

Well some people pay £200 per month for weight loss injections which would pay for two classes a week.
So clearly people have money for the things they want.

BeaTwix · 26/01/2026 22:47

I go three times a week. I get the classes included as part of my (admittedly expensive) gym membership. I also use the pool, do spin, yoga and soundbaths pretty regularly so I think it represents reasonable value for money.

Reformer is the only exercise I really enjoy and have stuck at. I've been doing reformer regularly now for 8 years. I'm still overweight. But I'm strong. It feels important to maintain this as I age.

I've been a member of the expensive gym now for almost four years. This is the only time I've stuck with gym memebership for more than two years.

outerspacepotato · 26/01/2026 22:51

I bought a floor reformer, put it on bed risers, and I'm set.

I've done mat pilates before in classes, but the Reformer classes are priced outrageously.

MummyJ36 · 26/01/2026 22:52

I think it’s because the classes are usually a lot smaller than standard exercise classes because of the equipment. I’ve tried multiple times to get into it but always end up coming away with some form of injury so I’ve had to admit defeat (which is not such a bad thing for my bank balance!!)

Nomotivationanymore50 · 26/01/2026 22:57

I get a 10 pack for 130 and each class is 50 minutes long. I gave it a try because I had lost a lot of muscle due to fast weight loss post bereavement and was suffering with a bad back. The strength it has given me back plus I can now start to see muscle growth is something I can't put a price on. I've had to cut my cloth in other areas to be to afford the classes but at almost 52 I need to put my health first.

I didn’t lose a single lb doing Pilates twice a week…

MollyFeather · 26/01/2026 23:00

Oh yeah. Reformer Pilates. . I paid £25 for a session, didn’t think for a moment it would trigger my motion / travel sickness and ended the hour by throwing up outside in a bush.

never again

NancyJoan · 26/01/2026 23:02

I go twice a week at £20 a class, and have done for the last two years. Is the only thing I have ever found that I enjoy, it has changed my body, and the way I think about my body. At 50, I am stronger, fitter and more active than I have ever been. Don’t pay for a gym membership, or anything else fitness wise. My studio is not insta perfect, or flash, but the teachers are superb, and I hope I never have to stop going.

Is it a chain or independent?

That’s great. It wasn’t meant as a dig by the way. I just thought £20 a class would be enough to put most people off if I’m being honest.
