To reckon that Reform will win the next election, and to be utterly terrified about it? 😪

i am a leftie

I think they’ll win

If don’t, they’ll have the majority in a hung parliament and govern as a minority party before joining with the Tories.

i’m going to tighten my belt re running my home and prepare for onslaught as the country becomes unrecognisable

I think no it's a bit of a joke to say Reform would be a security risk when it's Starmer who is attacking farmers and putting our food security at risk, trying desperately to give away the Chargos Islands and rent them back costing billions and allowing a mega Chinese embassy to open in London far larger than necessary for purpose.

I think you’ll find that the biggest threat the Farmers, by far, are supermarkets, and thier collective buying power. The European markets are much more difficult to get into, so they are at the mercy of the big buyers.

It’s not inheritance tax that’s the problem, it’s people expecting cheap food (but much easier to point at Government Policy, than to spend more on a higher welfare chicken)

The Chagos island situation came about under the last government, and we are required to abide by the court judgments.

You don’t really think these defecting Tories are going to risk letting Farage near an actual election. One of them, let’s put our money on Jenrick’s ego, will challenge him for the leadership pretty soon.

I'm not a reform fan, but calling them fascists is a bit of a stretch. I used to read the guardian and remember fondly the section of their readership who like to claim anyone right of Corbyn is a fascist. There were always bullet pointed checklists that "proved" it.

Reform do meet the criteria to be considered fascist. They certainly celebrate and push authoritarian agendas.

I've never been a Corbyn voter or supporter.

There comes a point where getting squeamish and not calling a spade a space becomes massively problematic. Worth looking at the fallacy of being tolerant of intolerance.

One of the issues regularly flagged with parts of the left and the Labour party in the past has been the competitiveness over who is the most left wing person on the left. I'm not and have never been a part of that. I hover between slightly left or slightly left of centre depending on policy.

I'm not sure. I think they are all hoping to be on a front bench. And will be loyal until they are JB power. But I cannot see that playing out in anything but a negative way. The way Reform is structured is also unconventional - more like a shell corporation than a political party.

You have ready access to your GP?! How lucky you are. If I want an appointment to see my GP, I have to enter a phone queue of 50 people at 8 in the morning. We can only have same day appointments, and once they’re filled, it’s rinse and repeat for the following day. No wonder people use A&E as a walk in GP service. And no NHS dentists either. I have one fortunately, but there’s a 2 year waiting list for new NHS patients to register. I can’t believe that people are so used to the rubbish service we receive that they’re actually thankful for it.

yes the access is free and I can contact them. I do have a long wait on the phone but that’s due to cuts

I agree there are issues with current access to NHS. And NHS backlogs. But Reform would privatise the NHS and reduce access.

I think a number of other parties have better approaches to NHS reform than selling it off.

All the Tory defections should trigger by elections in their constituencies, they were not voted in as Reform candidates so how can they just switch to Reform and keep their seats? It's not what their constituents voted for.

In First Past the Post you vote for the candidate individually, not the party. Which means MPs retain their seat even if they cross the floor or have the whip removed. It was a system set up before we had the diversity of parties we currently do. Many voters also think it terms of who they want as PM and vote accordingly, even though that isn't technically who they are voting for. Ideally we'd have electoral reform into a system that is easier/ clearer to follow and good political education/ media that reports accurately. But... That's been something people have been trying to sort for a few decades.

ExtraOnions · 26/01/2026 21:25

I don’t have any issues accessing a GP, and never had. I can ring at any time tomorrow, I will get traiged by a Dr, and if I need to I’ll come in and see them, or they might perscribe meds, or suggest something else.

I have a well managed GP surgery, who employ a great practice manager, and have processes that aren’t out of the ark.

In the interests of balance here’s what Labour claim to have done so far:

NHS
Secured £400m investment to boost clinical trials, improving NHS services and driving growth.
Announced that over 1,000 more GPs will be recruited this year, supporting NHS services.
Set out his long-term plan to rebuild our NHS for good and transform services over the next 10 years.
TRANSPORT
Ended train strikes, delivering for passengers.
Launched new legislation to bring the UK's railways back into public ownership which will improve rail services.
Given communities more power over their local bus services.
HOUSING
Banned no-fault evictions and introduced new protections for renters.
Delivered planning reform to build the homes we need.
Announced ‘Homes for Heroes’ - a programme to ensure all UK Armed Forces Veterans as well as domestic abuse survivors and care leavers have a roof over their head.
CRIME AND BORDER SECURITY
Kickstarted a plan to restore neighbourhood policing.
Scrapped the wasteful Rwanda scheme and launched a Border Security Command to smash the criminal smuggling gangs and improve the UK's border security.
EDUCATION
Launched a Curriculum and Assessment Review to help improve schools.
Started the drive to recruit 6,500 teachers nationally, improving the education system.
Launched Skills England to transform opportunities and drive growth.
Scrapped single headline Ofsted grades in schools in landmark school reform.
Overhauled apprenticeships through a new Growth and Skills Levy.
Supported parents by announcing the first stage of the government's plan to deliver 3,000 school-based nurseries.
Announced the Children's Wellbeing bill which will remove barriers to opportunity and make sure the school system is fair for every child.
Kickstarted the rollout of free breakfast clubs for all primary school children through an early adopters scheme.
ECONOMY AND EMPLOYMENT
Unveiled new measures to support small businesses impacted by late payments.
Scrapped the ban on onshore wind and unblocked solar schemes to deliver lower bills and good jobs.
Announced improved employment rights for workers, with a package of reforms that will Make Work Pay - including ending exploitative zero hour contracts, providing statutory sick pay from day one, and ending fire and rehire.
Secured a record 131 new green infrastructure projects which will create jobs and drive growth.
Announced a new National Wealth Fund to unlock private investment.
Introduced a new Fiscal Lock Law to deliver economic stability and protect family finances.
Announced new Covid Corruption Commissioner to get back what is owed to people.
Launched landmark pensions review to support pensioners.
ENVIRONMENT
Launched a new Floods Resilience Taskforce to turbocharge flood preparedness and support delivery of flood defences.
Delivered new measures to penalise water bosses who pollute waters.
Announced a new deal for farmers, which will go further to support farmers, boosting rural economic growth and strengthening Britain's food security.
COST OF LIVING
Launched the Warm Homes Plan to deliver lower energy bills and lift over one million households out of fuel poverty.
Established the Child Poverty Taskforce, working across government departments to tackle child poverty.
Working to drive up Pension Credit applications.
Extended the Household Support Fund to support struggling households with bills and essential costs over winter.
DEFENCE
Launched a new Armed Forces Commissioner who will be a strong, independent champion to improve life for UK service personnel and their families.
Awarded our armed forces the largest pay increase in decades which will renew the nation's contract with those who serve.

It is bollocks though, a good deal of that is either shite or already backfiring, like breakfast clubs. They say they are doing it but completely underinvesting. That never works.

EsmeSusanOgg · 26/01/2026 20:56

No, it really is not. They are certainly authoritarian and are emulating paths to political victory used by fascist parties of times gone by.

In the same way the current US administration's use of ICE to intimidate states who do not tend to vote in support of the current administration emulates tactics used by Hitler and the Nazis in the early 1930s.

Not everyone who votes for Reform is a right wing bigot fascist sympathiser. But everyone who is a right wing bigot fascist sympathiser does vote for Reform.

The issue is that there is no unifying alternative at the moment, which leads to split votes across the board.

What this realistically.means come the next general election - it is too far away to tell. But the Scottish and Welsh parliamentary elections will be considered a litmus test for overall popularity of Reform and of other parties.

"Not everyone who votes for Reform is a right wing bigot fascist sympathiser."

Great. Stop worrying then.

Same with our GP surgery, and as for the NHS dentists there isn’t even a waiting list to join…

Kingscallops · 26/01/2026 21:49

Well I'm going to sing Labour's praises with the NHS. Have just been through an unpleasant but necessary ordeal and I was seen and diagnosed quickly. Wes Streeting is fantastic.

Yes, the dentistry situation is dire

LaurieFairyCake · 26/01/2026 21:52

All the ones that have gone over are UBER CUNTY. Like a cunt on steroids.

I hope they all kill each other in some sort of hunger games conference

onpills4godsake · 26/01/2026 21:53

I honestly think they are all as bad as each other- I don’t trust and party and I do t feel represented by any of them

I won’t be voting which I see does make me per of the problem but they are ll the same

Dappy777 · 26/01/2026 21:59

No chance. This country is dominated by the Left. They run academia, the arts, the BBC, the publishing industry and the entertainment industry, and they now have one priority - stop Reform.

As for being “terrified” 🙄, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I constantly hear the word ‘fascist’ thrown at Farage. Frankly, I don’t know how the Left have got the nerve. They’re the fascists. The Left have IMPOSED mass immigration on this country, and they have IMPOSED a new identity on us. No one asked for it, and no one voted for it. Now that’s fascism. It isn’t Reform who are stopping people speaking on university campuses, and it isn’t Reform who are re-writing the history books, or demanding novels be removed from the bookshops, or dictating what we can say and think. It isn’t Reform who are ‘de-colonising’ the libraries and demonising our national heroes and teaching us to be ashamed of our history and culture.

Though they pose as morally superior, no one on earth is more dictatorial, intolerant or hate-filled than the Left. But because their hatred is directed towards Daily Mail-reading ‘NIMBYs’, somehow that’s OK.

onpills4godsake · 26/01/2026 22:01

I feel labour has been catastrophic for my household

my 16 year old can not get a part time job and he applied for hundreds - she has a zero hour contract with a hotel where she has worked a few shifts over Christmas and that’s it.

the level of tax my husband pays frankly takes the piss as we can not access a gp, the roads are awful (pot holes and floods)
and the public transport is non existent.

Im public sector and have never felt more let down by a government- I voted labour and just feel so let down

the green electric car I got- I am swapping back to petrol as the tax is
high and it’s not going to be economical to have.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/01/2026 22:05

DAPPY777

the same number, about 75000 people have come to the UK on small boats to seek asylum in the last 2 years as the previous 2 years of the Tory government

I get you don’t like it but Tories as bad as Labour in the actual numbers 🤷‍♀️

ChurchWindows · 26/01/2026 22:09

Who is demonising which national heroes?

StarDolphins · 26/01/2026 22:10

I don’t want Reform in but Labour are doing an appalling job and now we’re out of the ‘give him chance, it’s not even been a year yet’ stage, I can confidently say, he’s making a right old mess. More debt, more unemployment and spends most of his time shitting himself about Reform and posting drivel about reform.

There’s absolutely nobody good imo.

scorpiogirly · 26/01/2026 22:11

I sincerely hope they do.

GoldenGail · 26/01/2026 22:14

As a Scot I think it would would help our case for independence

Bobbybobbins · 26/01/2026 22:15

I used to worry about it but I’ve decided to are less. I would never vote Reform but if people do then that’s their lookout!

ThingsAreNotWhatTheyWere · 26/01/2026 22:23

I share your worries, particularly someone with long-term illnesses/disabilities.
The voting is currently 52-48. Hmm, where have we seen that before? How did it go again? 🫣
