To reckon that Reform will win the next election, and to be utterly terrified about it? 😪

i am a leftie

I think they’ll win

If don’t, they’ll have the majority in a hung parliament and govern as a minority party before joining with the Tories.

i’m going to tighten my belt re running my home and prepare for onslaught as the country becomes unrecognisable

Don't they have about 7 MPs at the moment out of 600+?
I don't think they're going to win any time soon - what they will do is split the Conservative vote though.

Playingvideogames · 26/01/2026 14:40

I’m not at all a leftie and I’m also terrified.

They’re awful, corrupt, incompetent snakes and will be a huge risk to national security.

frozendaisy · 26/01/2026 14:43

Why don’t you wait until they produce their manifesto first. They will be scrutinised by the top political journalists, they will be forced to cost their policies, they will be held to account.

A UK prime minister does not have the same authoritive power as a president does.

What are you scared about exactly?

(I am the most left in this house, I think if Reform get in it will be x3 years of nothing getting done just scandal over ineptitude and text messages).

Eskarina1 · 26/01/2026 14:43

Google Neil kinnock 1992. We cannot predict the election this far out - they couldn't predict it 24 hours out.

Yes it's scary. Not in a Tory austerity worries me way but in a they have suggested abolishing free at the point of need health care, reviewing abortion rights and introducing a UK ICE kind of way. We can see the leader literally lying and people believing him against all the odds and that kind of cult worship is frightening.

But there are 3 years to go. We can do something. Active hope and taking action us healthier

Talkinpeace · 26/01/2026 14:44

Just wait till one of the Tories with Cabinet experience challenges for a top post.

Nige will flounce out to form a new party
and the whole thing will collapse

AmIReallyOCD · 26/01/2026 14:44

Well….
surely with what was revealed in Davos last week, its time for a change. The end result of what the current leaders are all trying to engineer is purely sickening.

5128gap · 26/01/2026 14:46

I think if they do, they're going to very swiftly discover there is a huge difference between braying about what should be done and actually managing to do it. Between spouting any old nonsense promise to gain support and delivering on them to keep it.
I think there will be a very uncomfortable, distressing period when underprivileged and disadvantaged people sold the lie that their problems would be over if we 'stop the boats', realise they are actually no better off at all, and that the protections they are most likely to need, the welfare state and NHS are the price they've paid for this pie in the sky.
After which they will be voted out. My fervent hope as a fellow leftie is that parties that are supposed to represent this end of the spectrum get their act together ready to fill the gap.

You think Farage has something better to offer?

BeFairOliveBear · 26/01/2026 14:47

You'd imagine we would have learned something after Brexit, his would be much much worse 😢

somewhereintheworld · 26/01/2026 14:50

I still think Keir's got time to turn things around. Labour's big mistake was to stop the winter fuel allowance. That seemed to turn people against them right from the start. I know it's been reintroduced, but the right wing press have done a number on them in the meantime. If Reform get in we're all doomed. I don't think they will though.

They can trash the economy very fast by being incompetent and corrupt. Look how much harm Liz Truss did and she was in for less than the shelf life of a lettuce.

Even if they don’t manage to succeed at ICE type stuff and destroying the NHS they will likely make us all a lot poorer.

I'm starting to think this is likely. At least three of the recent defections previously campaigned to be Tory leader. Probably Liz Truss will be next. I doubt they have the continence of ambition to wait until after the general election to try to oust Farage.

EasternStandard · 26/01/2026 14:56

Labour might be out but it’s still hard to predict if it’ll be Reform. Let’s see, still some time away.

Thewonderfuleveryday · 26/01/2026 14:57

"Why don’t you wait until they produce their manifesto first. They will be scrutinised by the top political journalists, they will be forced to cost their policies, they will be held to account."

But many of their voters won't look at political news and see them being held to account. See also Brexit.

attichoarder · 26/01/2026 14:58

I don’t think is a foregone conclusion. I think people are fed up of the current government which despite proclaiming to be for working people has left many worse. The scrapping of two child benefit cap , the freezing big personal allowances etc if you are working you are worse off but if you are on benefits the perception is Labour has been good for you. I know that isn’t necessarily the case but that is the perception, the Tory’s made such a bad job of things that people want change and I can understand the view that it can’t be much worse as Reforms rhetorical in parts sounds like common sense. I don’t think Reform will be a disaster but neither do I think they have the answers

Ioweyounothingnothingatall · 26/01/2026 14:58

I’m a (disgruntled) member of the Labour Party and unless something unexpected happens, they’re going to either win or be the largest party. There’s so much denial about it, and very little action to actually do something about it. It’s massively frustrating.

As a middle class white person who isn’t disabled and isn’t on benefits and gets private healthcare through work, I probably don’t have much to worry about personally. I fear massively for those who aren’t in the same position as me, and just hope people are preparing as best they can.

FlyingApple · 26/01/2026 15:01

I agree. Labour was meant to prevent this continued slide to the right but they've really destroyed that. I resent Labour for that.

clarepetal · 26/01/2026 15:05

My thoughts exactly today. It's a horrible thought.

MidnightPatrol · 26/01/2026 15:05

Given our existing parties have been able to achieve absolutely nothing, I can’t imagine they will be any different.

TBH they increasingly seem to be disaffected Tory MPs anyway. So it’s Conservatives but a big angrier about immigration.

EmeraldRoulette · 26/01/2026 15:06

@AmIReallyOCD I follow WEF quite closely and I'm confused by your post

Are you one of these people who's only just realised what they do? When they've been talking about it in plain sight for years and years? And live streaming their talks!

outofsounds · 26/01/2026 15:07

It’s over three years till the next General Election. A week in politics is a long time, never mind three years. Absolutely no point being ‘terrified’.

AgnesX · 26/01/2026 15:08

Hopefully the US will come to it's collective senses long before the next election which will have an impact on what happens.

Yes this, they're very very unstable, will be unable to form a government let alone govern. I'm not worried about Reform, but I don't think that's why people vote for them. They're just an immigration pressure group
