Bumping this thread in hopes that you’ll find what you’re looking for. NI mum here too - DD did her transfer test 10 years ago back in the AQE days but I remember the stress well!! What I will say is that getting your child’s first choice of grammar school really isn’t the be all and end all. DD scored well and comfortably got into Methody but in hindsight she definitely would’ve been happier elsewhere. High entry requirements don’t necessarily mean great teaching.

Thank you 🥰 my son did well got way into band 1. So hoping we will get his choice of high school. Howeverbhis friend who is also hoping to go got band six. Which was really shocking as he was performing well in his practice tests. Im so proud of my son. But sad for others. Its a really horrible thing for them to go through. I like reading and learning mroe about it. My daughter will be next. But not for a few years.

It’s awful, especially at such a young age. I’d like to hope that things are different now (although I think that’s a bit too optimistic, sadly) but when DD did her transfer test I knew of multiple children who didn’t do so well and therefore didn’t get placed in a school at all - huge stress/upset/worry on them and their families who ended up having to fork out for a fee paying school (Rockport/Campbell) instead. One of these boys is now a veterinary medicine student - so much for being written off by the AQE!

Very well done to your son by the way - I’ll never forget the relief and pride of seeing DD’s score and knowing that she’d get in to her top choice. I hope he has had a few well earned rewards this weekend (and maybe a few glasses of wine for mum😆)
