Thinking about my daughter started statins a year ago and she's always hungry she's put on so much weight in a year. I've been in statins for years and it don't do same for me.

No, that's not a side effect I've ever had.

Unfortunately, I've tried every statin there is and after a few months, they've all given me really bad heart palpitations, or ridiculously weak muscles (or both).

They've now re-started me on Atorvastatin but only 20mg and so far so good, although the dose is far too low for me.

But (sorry for the digression!) not all statins are exactly the same so you could ask to switch.

Although they generally advise you to give it 3 months.

Honestly, I can't digest them. I've gone down to the lowest dose, been put on other meds and it's started up again. I'm so miserable!

I took myself off of them. No matter what brand, I had muscle pain and felt ill. Luckily, my cholesterol is low anyway.

Why were you on them if your cholesterol is low?

My cholesterol is 6.1. I'm going to try a healthier diet and more exercise before statins. I'm getting my bloods done again in 6 months 🤞

I've tried lots of different oral statins, and they all gave me muscle and/or joint pain, and several of them gave me blinding headaches. None of them made me hungry though.

I'm on an injectable statin now (Praluent) and I'm not getting any side effects from it.

DramaAlpaca · 26/01/2026 17:16

No side effects at all here. I'm glad they don't make me hungry!

And yes, you can try different ones.

According to my GP, simply because I was 60. I’ve got very low cholesterol, no family history of heart disease etc - but I reached 60.🙄
