emkana - I agree. This article made me CROSS. As soon as I saw she'd recommended Cinema Paradiso and Legally Blonde I harrumphed and read no further! Mine wouldn't have had the foggiest at that age what was going on in any of these. I was expecting her to put things like Toy Story and The Incredibles - maybe I'm a bit lowbrow and predictable...

What age is the list meant for?

cory · 13/06/2008 21:49

"at that age"- the problem is that this film critic is bundling every childhood age, from tiny tots right up to almost adults, into the same list. Which seems totally pointless to me. As if a 3-year-old and a 16-year-old had more in common than a 16-year-old and an adult!

They do say that some of the films are suitable for older teenagers- but why include older teenagers on a list like this at all? Older teenagers can enjoy a vast range of films made for an adult audience; that's rather different from suitable viewing material for pre-schoolers.

My dd (11) thoroughly enjoyed Pride and Prejudice and Much Ado About Nothing, to mention just two, but would you really put those on a list of films suitable for kids? They're good films, full stop. As kids progress into their teens they can enjoy more and more adult viewing. But on a list of films for kids- you do expect rather younger stuff.
