I thought his public statements couldn't get any worse after his horrible mocking of Rob Reiner's murder by his son.

But in a way this seems even worse, in that he isn't even willing to respect basic human decency when commenting on those who fought and died for NATO. He may have backtracked on Greenland for now, but more and more he seems utterly contemptuous of Europe.

The man is an absolute cretin. How dare he say that about our brave soldiers who have fought and lost their lives, or been terribly injured and/or been damaged mentally by what they have been through.

It's more that he SAID it, on the world stage like that. In the first term he wasn't quite so brazen. Now it's the second term, he seems completely convinced he can say & do whatever he wants...

You're right! I suppose the worship of the MAGA base has by now convinced him he can say and do whatever he wants : last term he focused on the US whereas now he's happy to alienate USA's historic allies too, apparently...

And as I found out from Max Hastings' Vietnam War book recently (extremely sad but worth a read), Trump himself wriggled out of conscription with a spurious-sounding injury claim!
