So upset about ICE killings in Minnesota

So upset about the killings. No investigation and victim blaming from the Trump administration. I see no hope for America. Trump will cancel the midterms possibly elections or will rig them. The most powerful western country - one we thought was our friend is dying
im so sad for the bereaved and do sad for the country

I must admit I've never had to blow my whistle to alert anyone to the presence of the police but then I don't break the law or live with criminals

how lovely for you

perfectly nice people can live in bad areas through no fault of their own

Well if your children aren't in a country illegally they've nothing to worry about.

I must admit I've never had to blow my whistle to alert anyone to the presence of the police but then I don't break the law or live with criminals.

I wasn't in the country illegally. Nor were my parents or any of my family or my neighbours. Nor were we criminals.

Once again, its not about you @Gloriia.🙄

I've lived in 'bad' areas so yes youre right. Still never blew my whistle to alert criminals that the police were coming.

Sorry, why were you banging pan lids and prepping for tear gas then, just a bit of fun?

Those supporting the crackdown on illegal immigration and the actions of ICE need to acknowledge that inevitably there will be brutal incidents such as these two shootings and whether they are comfortable with the price for reducing illegal immigration will be the death of innocents.

Equally those against the crackdown on illegal immigration and the actions of ICE need to acknowledge that letting into the country undocumented people will mean that inevitably there will be violent criminals amongst them and whether they are comfortable with the price for stopping ICE and illegal immigration being the death of innocents by these criminals.

The whole ICE protests do remind me of the following incident:

Victim slams passengers who prevented convicted rapist Yaqub Ahmed from being deported

His victim has said the knowledge Ahmed remains in the UK, even in custody, has shaken her confidence.

my mum was a bookies runner when she was little 😀 you’d never have guessed meeting her

but part of her job was telling the bookies that the rozzers were coming

To protect ourselves from harm from government military and paramilitary agencies.

It wasn't fun. It was terrifying and traumatising. If citizens are taking these actions, then their government is doing something very wrong.

I used to live in a country with armed officers everywhere, passport checks, visas checks. Never banged a pot or blew a whistle.

The citizens in Minneapolis should not be doing it.

It isn't about any of us however we are discussing a situation in the US and sharing our opinions and experiences. Which you indeed have done?

Your "experience" has nothing to do with what's happening in the US at the minute.

Well neither has yours surely.
Look we are sharing opinions and "experiences". I've no idea why you think yours are any more important than anyone else's.

Anyway. Moving on..

This situation has really made me reflect upon what I would actually do if I lived in an authoritarian state and saw members of my community that were different being taken. If we don’t want to make comparisons to Germany we can unfortunately think of plenty of others, the Khmer Rouge for instance. Would I try to do something and risk being killed or would I hide and live with the guilt or convince myself it wasn’t so bad. I’m not proud that I don’t really know the answer to this, because the reality is that what happened in Minnesota has scared me.

I responded to this post about living in a community where people were taken, assaulted and murdered by government agents. You have no such experience @Gloriia.

I've lived in a country where people were taken and questioned? Didn't happen to me thankfully and I didn't blow any whistles but you aren't the only person to have experienced such things. Well done posting without an eyeroll.

What was your experience of it happening in your community? What happened when family, friends, neighbours were assaulted and taken from the neighbourhood? What happened when they were killed? How did people react? How did you react?

Imagine complaining about "illegal" immigtants, or excusing protestors being killed for "interfering with law enforcement" whilst happily supporting all or most of the legal system being chucked out the window.

This is the problem with the maga morons, they have no actual convictions, so they can easily change them on a whim.

How many pages has this thread gone to and you've STILL not understood the point. You've repeated lies and argued against clear and obvious truths. I'm embarrased FOR you 😬

There are plenty of children in the US who have plenty to worry about. The trauma will be lifelong. Not only are there thousands in camps (sound familiar?) but there are countless incidents of masked and armed thugs smashing windows of vehicles with children inside, raiding homes with children present. Not for any 'worst of the worst' just for someone born outside of the US. Legal status isn't the priority.
People are blowing their whistle to alert their friends and neighbours to the presence of ICEstapo because they understand what is going on. They aren't breaking the law, but they are recognising that the regime they are living under IS.
The default is that anyone who looks 'foreign' is an illegal immigrant and they will do whatever it takes to round them up, resulting in far more 'legal' citizens and immigrants being violently picked up than the 'worst of the worst'. For those, they trawl the jails. Beefs up their numbers for their stupid supporters who don't have enough brainpower to realise they have been charged, sentenced and are going to be deported anyway.

Quote : " they have no actual convictions"

They have LOADS of convictions. Trump himself has 34.

Bannon

Manafort

Rick Gates

Roger Stone

Micheal Flynn

George Papadopoulos

George Nader

Chris Collins

Add the non MAGA associates. Cohen, Weisselberg. Also add the other MAGA such as the pillow guy, Giuliani who are bankrupt due to Trump.

I find it massively ironic that Republicans ( and Reform) keep going on about "net contributors" to society when talking about 5 year old migrant children, while the biggest financial drain on the US court and Judicial system appears to be Trump the "tax avoider" himself. E Jean Carrol still has not got a penny from him by the way.

Please try to debate without sneers and attempts to mock.

There are people all over the world who have lots of things to worry about. In the US illegal immigrants are a huge problem.

Enforcement officers have a job to do, governors and mayors should support that. It's all gone quiet so maybe Frey & Walz have stopped encouraging the agitators. We can but hope.

This isn't a debate though. It's a couple of posters continually reposting the same misinformation while other posters patiently correct them, over and over and over.

If you want to debate, you have to engage with the evidence. I don't know what this thread is, but debate doesn't cover it.

EligibleTern · 01/02/2026 12:49

How can you be against the illegality of illegal immigration, but not equally against the illegality of the way ICE is carrying out its enforcement? Either you care about the rule of law and due process, or you don't. Acting like the only thing that matters is illegal immigrants breaking the law is a totally inconsistent position to take.

Oh, you thought I was trying to 'debate' with you? That would assume you had something credible to offer but we've seen how that's gone 🤣

I am glad, however, that you finally confirmed that you DO believe governors and mayors should be participating in the blatant disregard of the Constitution, the thuggery of ICEstapo and the mad descent into facism.
You know who else had a 'job to do'?

'Huge problem'? There's that 'common enemy' again 🙄

I'll celebrate when he's back home and safe. This lot have been ignoring court orders left, right and centre. Look at how they treated Kilmar Abregio Garcia. I wouldn't put it past them to invent some trumped-up charges for Liam too.
