To report this company to trading standards?

I ordered a birthday cake for my DD’s 6th birthday party from a company called Caker Street (big mistake!!) - I will attach photos of what the cake was supposed to look like and what we actually received.

when I opened the box, I was in disbelief. Apart from the fact that the cake is broken, it clearly would have looked awful before they even sent it and was nothing like the product I bought. It also smelt horrible. Kind of like play doh. I imagine there is hardly any sponge inside.

Unfortunately, I mistook this company for one I used in 2022 which was a lovely cake with a Stranger Things theme.

Anyway, I digress. After a bit more digging it seems that a lot of people are having this kind of experience.

Do you report this sort of thing to trading standards? I had to rush around, trying to find someone who could make us a decent cake within 24 hours! We were very lucky to but I am so out of pocket as a result.

Caker street have ignored my attempts to get in touch.

I’ve never heard of a cake like that being delivered. Who delivered it?

DHL. The thing is, there’s all this space around the cake so it probably slides all over. It was packaged ok apart from that massive space inside the cake box.

I live near Manchester.

He was recommended by a friend a few years back and he has made quite a few for me over the years. The last one was a football shirt, with scarfs and a badge. It was a chocolate sponge £35.

The most amazing one he has ever done was a Harry Potter, with Diagon Alley, houses, characters and books. It was a 3D cake. I think that was about £60.

He does it as a side line to his full time job.

I also live “near manchester”. In fact it’s a running joke amongst locals that it’s easier to say that, than explain where we live!! And I also know a cake maker who does it in his spare time (he’s amazing!!!!). And I’ve seen cakes similar to your description!!! Wonder if we live in the same place! Lol.

Op, I’d name and shame myself. Might prevent someone else from being in the same situation.

My goodness, he’s massively selling himself short. He must be making that at a loss.

He has been in business about 10 years. Can’t imagine he would have been doing it this long at a loss.

Trading standards would do nothing. We had an issue with a company that stole our items rather than move them to our new address. Trading standards suggested we write to the supplier to outline our concerns and how their service fell short of our expectations!

Same here. 8 miles away and I don’t have a M,cr postcode, but it’s just easier to say ‘Near Manchester’

He is a very Precious bloke (if that makes any sense?)

I think I made a mistake just paying out £175 but DD’s dad was nagging me to get it ordered. I should have been more careful, clearly. I think we paid £150 for her christening cake which wasn’t elaborate but it was a lovely cake. I assumed this was the going rate from 4 years ago. @Lucyccfc68 i wish your cake guy was near me!

The last cake I ordered was 18 months ago and it was £45. I would hope he has put his prices up since, with the prices of everything going up.

I’m just about to order one for my sons 21st, so I’ll see.
