Hard to find a ‘No dogs allowed’ UK costal break

AIBU to be pretty fed up with most holiday parks and rental cottages in England allowing dogs.

I’d be very grateful if anyone could suggest somewhere ideally in Dorset or Devon, a chalet holiday park or group of cottages where dogs are not permitted to stay. We are three families holidaying together. Would be nice if there was a pool.

This is so helpful. Thank you very much.

Don’t you know that dogs rule the world now?? After Covid you can’t move around here for bloody cockapoos!!

OonaStubbs · 21/01/2026 13:41

I'm sure there'd be a lot of money to be made if someone would open a resort that was completely dog free. Unfortunately the dog squad would never allow it to happen as it would be "discrimination" or something.

What's the actual issue with dogs?
Most holiday parks will allow them, BUT will also have dog/ pet free areas.

How often do dog owners pay the slightest bit of attention to ‘dog free’ areas!😂

ThatWasMyLastFatFreeFrush · 21/01/2026 16:15

The Haven nearest to St Ives Cornwall (can't remember what it's called) is dog free.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 21/01/2026 16:16

Although Centre Parcs is advertised as dog friendly, it isn’t really. Dogs are only allowed in a small amount of cabins, the last time I was there they weren’t allowed in any of the restaurants or inside areas. They will be walked in the outside public areas of course, depends how much you want to avoid them.

I’d be very happy for a dog free holiday resort to open. Might get the dog haters off our backs.

I love https://www.croydeunison.co.uk/. Dogs are allowed in a completely separate area but not on the main site, or on the beach during swim season. When my children were young we often saw the same family groups visiting year on year. I go off-season nowadays.

The problem is the responsible dog owners do pay attention, so the (non-assistance) dogs you encounter in dog-free areas all have owners you don’t want to encounter!

Tutorpuzzle · 21/01/2026 16:41

Classic Cottages have plenty of dogs not allowed places, as does Sweetcombe Cottages (small company, Devon only). Also many, many hotels.

I do find it funny that a perfectly reasonable question immediately turns into a ‘oooh, let’s turn it into a I Hate Dogs’ thread from some posters. Really weird.

Or give people with allergies the chance to enjoy a holiday or a cafe or a bus or a train.

columnatedruinsdomino · 21/01/2026 16:55

I think the holiday industry has realised there’s money to be made from pet-friendly accommodation! Most places add on eg £20 per night for ‘extra cleaning’ of their pet-friendly rooms or accommodation, even campsites we’ve stayed on sometimes add extra for dogs even though you’re in your own van. Anything up to £10 a night! It’s easy money to be made. Holiday parks take the piss even more because the pet-friendly statics are usually the basic ones and look like they’ve never seen a vacuum cleaner.

Ooh Riviere Sands; highly recommend this place OP!

Are there any resorts aimed at Muslims that ban dogs?

Thank you. Have looked at this and it’s very picturesque.
Thanks everyone. Ideally looking for completely dog-free but if some areas are completely separate that might be fine.

Hi MeganM3 . If you're on FB, there's group for pet-free accommodation. Hope you get fixed up.

I can tell you two places in Norfolk, but no idea re Devon

PainterInPeril · 21/01/2026 21:34

Meadowbank holidays, Christchurch are strictly dog-free. Its a caravan site next to a river, and is lovely. Especially late spring.

Twilight7777 · 21/01/2026 21:36

Try Blackpool, there are very few dog friendly places to visit there

dottiehens · 21/01/2026 22:04

No idea. The only reason I would go on holidays in the UK is to take my dog. 😂

I've been thinking the same thing the last few years. Been using cottages.com for over a decade but so many reek of dog now. Wouldn't mind too much if it was just downstairs but seems like even when owners specify no dogs upstairs many people rudely ignore this - see this evidence often.

Worst smell ever when you open the door after a long journey is artificial air freshener trying but failing to cover up the stink of dog.

Someone mentioned cottages.com allow you to search for pet free properties and I'm off to check as I'm sure I looked for that option last year and couldn't see it...
