My doctor was late to my appointment because he had been at the local country hotel full of asylum seekers...

When was the last time you had a home visit? Is this a way of managing the " problem" by them taking clinics there? Is it a way of hiding this issue? I understood they did not have access to the NHS yet I see massive bags of medicine labelled for this hotel too at the dispensary. We wait about 6-7 weeks for a routine appointment.

So what you’re implying is that they’re less than human and don’t deserve medical treatment or a place to live. Nice. 👌 **

Could you link to the source of this story please, OP?

All the asylum seeker hotels I've seen are absolute shiteholes.

RAGE BAIT ALERT!!!!!

Gingernaut · 17/01/2026 13:46

"Home visits" to a number of foreign language speakers is much more efficient

Instead of individually hiring interpreters at the GP surgery's expense, the hotel management can block book speakers of the same language together and hire one or two interpreters

TheatreTheatre · 17/01/2026 13:46

I called my GP surgery yesterday for an irritating and uncomfortable condition, but not acute, potentially life threatening or serious, and got an appointment for next Wednesday. The lack of urgency was checked by the Receptionist - if there was any suggestion of urgency or seriousness my request would have gone through an online triage with the GP to see if I needed fast tracking.

This is at a GP surgery in the heart of SADIQ KHAN'S sharia-governed, no-go, dangerous hotbed of immigrants, gang members, and asylum seekers S London. And on the edge of a council estate and up the road from a hostel where terrified female Afghani asylum seekers live.

If you are having to wait 6-7 weeks for a GP appointment look up the complaints process for your NHS area, and write to your MP.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but that hotel is for asylum seeking families, and most occupants are women and children.

It's also semi rural so it's unlikely that residents can easily get to the surgery. If there are any buses, they probably can't afford to get one as they only get £9 a week to spend.

So yes, it's likely that a doctor will visit occasionally. And given that this is Mumsnet, I'm sure we all agree that children who need medical care should get it, wherever they come from.

No we don't agree.

If we can't get appointments (and thus by defination neither can we get them for our families) then yes we do object to children from other countries getting them when our own citizens can't.

Genxhausted · 17/01/2026 13:49

As someone who works with them, yes they can access the NHS as an asylum seeker and yes, they are usually either sent by taxi to the doctors ( no money for bus) or clinics are held in hotels for those in rural locations. Vaccination teams also visit to ensure asylum seekers are properly vaccinated. Only failed asylum seekers or those without an active claim have to pay for health care. They also get a Health Certificate so they don't have to pay for medication. Again, no money exempt the ( 9.90 ) they get a week for any need apart from food which is provided on site.

SingedSoul · 17/01/2026 13:49

I get where you are coming from, I'm not sure I agree though. In contentious subjects I often think I just sit on the fence. There is such a mass of opinions and information that I change my mind all the time. I'm obviously fickle and politically hopeless.

Do you know how many british people are homeless or living in temporary accomodation. Do you know how many british people can't access a GP appointment in the mad 8am system.

Are they less than human?

It's sad that something like this cannot be discussed properly. I would love to hear what suggestions the insulters have as how to deal with this issue in the long term. Many people are fed up with these issues. I grew up with many people who were immigrants and I never knew as a child that the names were not even of my country. One side of my family are first generation immigrants but the difference is these people worked hard and brought their families. I'm not seeing this right now.

Do you not know that asylum seekers are not allowed to work? Most of them are likely just as hardworking as your prestigious economic migrant relatives. For most, it takes initiative to get to the UK after all.

Thanks for this important detail.

The right wing rhetoric on this would have us all believe it’s all “young single men” in all of these asylum seeker accommodations.

Although not saying that “fighting age young men” should be denied healthcare either.

6-7 weeks? Wth, I call my Drs in the morning and I'm seen the same day or can book online and be seen within 48 hours. Not every issue you have is because of immigration. A lot of it will actually be from the many years of austerity thanks to the Tory government. 🫠

I've only needed to see the GP twice in the last 2-3 years. Both times I submitted an online request. I was seen the same day when my request was made in the morning, and next working day when it was made in the afternoon.

Here’s some advice for you.

whenever these irrational thoughts occur, remember how lucky you are not to be in the desperate situation of an asylum seeker. Repeat dose as needed.

ScholesPanda · 17/01/2026 13:52

When I was growing up, one of my GPs was someone who had arrived in the UK seeking asylum (from Egypt).

Sorry Op, some of us still see these people as human beings who shouldn't be left to suffer and die, even if we disagree with high immigration.

no offence to you but the people who travelled thousands of miles (past other safe European countries), braved the north sea, all to get the benefits britain are unable to make their way to the local GP surgery cos it might be a bit of a walk.......

It's sad that this cannot be discussed. It's not goady. It's a matter of fact for some people. What is Labour's solution? To build new homes for these men. How do people on council waiting lists feel about this. We ARE allowed to raise these issues.

But it is being discussed: right here, right now!

Catterbat · 17/01/2026 13:54

Just to address your other point OP about the government building houses specifically for immigrants. It’s not true. I’ve had to point this out to so many thick right-wingers lately, apparently Starmer aka Satan made a speech about it - but he didn’t. It’s another lie fed to the gullible on social media to stir up hatred.

You’re welcome to post a link to said speech if you disagree.

It baffles me that anyone would share information online without being certain it was correct. I sometimes think people don’t even care if something’s true or not if it furthers their agenda. I find that quite scary.

You don't seem to want to discuss it properly though. There have been plenty of reasonable replies, and some insults, but you sound like you just want people to agree with you. I'm fed up hearing people saying that these issues can't be discussed when they are literally in the middle of talking about it. I suspect you don't want discussion, you want everyone to tell you you're right.

Same! NHS is not perfect but when I have to be seen, my doctor always either ask me to go or online, usually the same day.

I think this whole matter won’t really be sorted out until we have special hard working Brit badges to use at public services to go to the top of the queue.

nope. Lots of them are brought in by organised crime associations

PurpleLovecats · 17/01/2026 13:56

This is such a ridiculous thread.

Firstly, asylum seekers are entitled to healthcare.

Secondly, no GP should be sharing info of where they have been previously.

Thirdly, asylum seekers cannot work so nobody can question their work ethic.

Fourthly, surgeries triage appointments so had you been a high priority, you would have been seen sooner.

Stop bashing asylum seekers. Do you feel the same anger towards the alcoholic who doesn’t work and has a home visit? The mentally unwell who frequent surgeries too often? The fun loving teen who broke their leg parachuting?

what a bizarre thing to write over such a serious matter.

So you don't think the Russians are attacking the country by undermining/sabotaging. We imagined ships in our water that the navy chased off. We imagined our cables had been tampered with. We imagined the cyber attack on our manufacturing industries recently. What about the use of poison in Salisbury.

Glad you spent alot of time thinking/reading about it before posting your views.

Course if you are working on behalf of Putin then good job but you need to improve on your gaslighting skills.
