Impossible to get from airport to central Paris within 90 mins at rush hour?

Son needs to get from Charles de Gaullle to the Eiffel Tower within 90 mins at rush hour tomorrow (Friday). His flight gets in at 5.30pm and he has to be there by 7.45pm. He has paid for a check-in bag but if the margins are too fine, he can forgo this. Anyone know Paris and the transport system and pressures? I say this isn’t going to be possible, he says it will be. Posting here for traffic too/mostly as need a quick answer.

Use the metro it’s about an hour and 15 maybe, tight but should be ok as long as flight is on time and immigration plays ball. Make sure he knows about payment options etc in advance

Has he been through the new EU entry process before? If not, won’t that slow him down?

PsychoSyd · 15/01/2026 19:21

Well... if he has already enrolled on the EU/EEA exit scheme... & he doesn't have bags to collect... & the RER line B is running fine into Paris... & he changes at Gare du Nord onto line 4, then onto line 8 for Trocadero & it all runs smoothly... then he'll be fine.

Otherwise, can he get an earlier flight?

PsychoSyd · 15/01/2026 19:22

Quite frankly, I wouldn't risk it, & I say it as someone who lived in Paris for three years & suffered the Metro/RER at rush hour.

ColdAsAWitches · 15/01/2026 19:24

Depending on airline and terminal, it could take that long to get from the plane to the station! I don't think it's realistic.

Ginmonkeyagain · 15/01/2026 19:25

I wouldn't rely on RER B runnning with no delays.

hotblacktea · 15/01/2026 19:27

forget the check-in bag and tell him to plan ahead the trip with google maps and/or the paris public transport app, he can also buy tickets in advance on the app to save time.
it's perfectly doable and cheap with metro and RER, but by taxi it would be a risk

jamandcustard · 15/01/2026 19:27

Yeah, that's not going to happen, unless he can miraculously get off the plane, get through security and get to the train station in less than 30 minutes.

ginislife · 15/01/2026 20:19

It took us 90 minutes to find our way out of the airport !!!

Thank so far, does he have to do the EU/EEA exit scheme if he uses his Irish passport (he has dual citizenship)?

No, if he has an EU/EEA passport, he can skip the exit scheme. Lucky him!

I know, Brexit is shit

Very tight, and practically impossible in rush hour, but he has no real option but to try! Otherwise tell the Eiffel Tower to wait for him. 😊

He made it! Thank you for the advice
